Family Partner

Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network (Previously known as Heart of Texas MHMR)

Under the immediate supervision of the KCF Division Director, or Lead Certified Family Partner, a Certified Family Partner (CFP) plays a key role in engaging families in mental health services by using their lived experience to build rapport and help families navigate services and build skills. CFPs are a benefit of Texas Medicaid for Parents (birth, adoptive, and foster parents).

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
  • Per referral from Case Managers, Therapists, Skills Trainers, and/or other Treatment Team
    members, Family Partner meets with parents/caregivers of children served by Klaras Center for Families to provide experienced advice and guidance concerning KCF services and mental health services in general.
  • Under the supervision of KCF Division Director, or Lead Certified Family Partner, provides emotional support to parents/caregivers struggling to meet their unique parental demands and personal challenges.
  • Participates as a team member in conferences designed for the diagnosis and treatment of clients.
  • Assists parents in identifying barriers and problems as well as in problem solving.
  • Provides education and assistance in navigating and advocating for their child in child serving systems (child welfare, education, behavioral/mental health, juvenile justice, school, primary care, etc.).
  • Facilitates and assists in identifying formal and informal community resources and support.
  • Provides Coaching, and skills training for the parent(s)/guardian(s).
  • Co-facilitates the Parent Support Group in an effort to support, empower, and guide parents of
    children and adolescents served at KCF.
  • Increases knowledge and skills through attendance of outside conferences and seminars whenever
    possible.
  • May provide transportation to clients or caregivers.
  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Essential Functions

  • Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and telephone skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, reliability, and dependability towards Center employees, clients, and the community
  • Must display excellent organizational skills and time management
  • Must have Rehabilitation/Skills Training.
  • Stooping, bending, sitting, standing for prolonged periods and lifting up to 15 pounds
  • Works mainly in office setting with 50% of time transporting clients and other errands
  • Ability to be CPR and PMAB certified
  • Valid driver's license, liability insurance, and reliable transportation required

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Be a legally authorized representative (LARs), or primary caregiver of a Medicaid eligible child or youth (20 years of age and younger) who is diagnosed with a serious emotional disturbance (SED), a mental health or substance use condition, with at least 1 year of dealing with mental health issues with their own child, if so please provide information.
  • Must meet qualifications and complete Certified Family Partner training within one year of hire

Hours: 8AM-5PM M-F with possible variations per client needs

Salary: $31,200 annually/$15.0000 hourly
