Physician Nocturnist

SCMG Physician – Nocturnist Reports To: SCMG Clinical Division Director, Hospital Medicine Department: SCMG Hospitalist Program Position Overview: The Nocturnist Hospitalist Physician responds to admission requests and assumes care at such time that patients are transferred out of the Emergency Department or directly admitted from an outside facility as specified by each SCHS hospital’s medical staff bylaws. The role provides 24‑hour coverage as the attending of record for adult inpatients (minimum age 18) presenting with primary internal medicine pathology and delivers services continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Shift length is typically 10–11 hours, with a minimum of 118 shifts per year for a 0.9 FTE position. The physician may work day or swing shifts, with options for a 7‑day rotation or flexible scheduling, and may be called for backup during high census periods. Responsibilities Provide 24‑hour coverage of all medicine patients on the Bend campus in an admitting and consultative role, in accordance with existing co‑management agreements. Provide 24‑hour coverage of all medicine and critical‑care patients on the Redmond campus in an admitting and consultative role, in accordance with existing co‑management agreements. Serve as a consultant for inpatient psychiatric patients in PES or Sageview and for patients in inpatient rehabilitation when medically complex. Share equitable distribution of work with other hospitalist physicians on shift. Maintain credentialing and privileges to perform critical‑care procedures and rotate equitably between St.Charles‑Redmond and SCMC‑Bend hospitals. Transfer patients requiring higher level of care to appropriate facility, in coordination with accepting physician. Maintain familiarity with the SCMG organization structure, communication systems, billing processes, and complete billing and coding documentation in a timely manner. Obtain and maintain 60 hours of Category1 CME over the prior two years and stay current through regular CME activity. Participate in Rapid Response Supervision as requested. Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and comply with health‑system policies and regulatory agencies. Maintain punctual presence for assigned workdays in compliance with SCHS attendance policy. Education & Training Required: Graduation from an accredited medical school; Successful completion of an ACGMA‑accredited residency program in Internal Medicine. Preferred: None. Licensure, Certification & Registration Current MD or DO license. Board Certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Unrestricted Federal DEA number. Unrestricted participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or other federal or state health‑care programs. Valid driver's license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Additional certifications may be required based on privileges granted by Medical Staff Services at SCHS inpatient locations. Experience Experience using EMR (Epic) software. Advanced written and verbal communication skills to interact with a diverse population and represent SCHS professionally. Experience working in a team environment and collaborating to achieve expected results. Preferred: 2 years of medical practice in Hospital Medicine with Epic EMR experience. Personal Protective Equipment The physician must wear appropriate PPE as required to perform the job safely. Call expectation: back‑up call during high census times as requested.
