RN Emergency Department

Job Summary:

The SMH Level 3 Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room (ER) provides skilled nursing care in a fast-paced, high-volume adult emergency department that serves a diverse patient population and functions as a Level I trauma center. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, treatment, and coordination of care, including managing boarder patients. This role requires strong clinical skills, previous travel ER experience, and the ability to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts. Responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care to emergency department patients in a Level I trauma center setting.
• Perform patient assessments, monitor telemetry, and administer treatments as required.
• Manage care for boarder patients within the emergency department.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies and emergency protocols.
• Participate in on-call, callback, and charge nurse duties as needed.
• Adapt to floating assignments, weekends, and holiday shifts.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State (NY License ONLY).
• Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience.
• Minimum of 2 years telemetry monitoring experience.
• Previous travel ER nursing experience.
• American Heart Association BLS certification.
• American Heart Association ACLS certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with electronic health records, preferably EPIC in emergency or inpatient specialty areas.

Special Considerations:

• Work in a high-acuity, fast-paced Level I trauma emergency department.
• Must be able to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Floating to other units, weekend, holiday, on-call, and callback responsibilities required.
• Assignment duration is limited to 17 weeks.
• ER does not support first-time travelers.

Scheduling:

• 36 or 48 hours per week on rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Shift schedules include floating, weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback as per unit needs.
