Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is one of the region's largest orthopedic and sports medicine practices, providing comprehensive care for more than 250,000 patients each year. In August 2023, the institute opened Florida's first dedicated orthopedic hospital, featuring 75 private inpatient rooms, 10 operating suites with four virtually connected suites that can be used to train surgeons around the world, and a state-of-the-art research and innovation center with a 10-station bio skills lab and 3D printer. In March 2023, a new medical pavilion opened adjacent to the hospital and houses outpatient clinics, an imaging suite, physical therapy spaces and the largest orthopedic ambulatory surgery center in Florida. Expertise, technology and services come together under one roof and cover the whole spectrum of care from prevention and diagnostics to therapeutic and surgical treatment options to physical therapy, rehabilitation and performance health. The institute also holds official medical roles with multiple professional, college and high school athletic teams as well as well-known sporting events and venues.

Under the supervision of the physician, according to established practice guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards, provides inpatient and outpatient management, consultations, and co-management of surgical patients.

Responsibilities:

• Manages patients with the highest degree of independence in provision of patient care services with minimal physician supervision and in a highly specialized area and across the continuum.
• Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, diagnostic studies and recognizes deviations from the normal.
• Develop a diagnosis and work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implement the treatment plan.
• Surgically close wounds, incision and drainage, debridement, dressing (the surgeon must remain in the immediate area).
• Scrub with collaborating surgeon in operating room.
• Perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as credentialed, in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
• Implement appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission and discharge care in accordance with evidence based medicine.
• Identify, analyze, and resolve patient care issues to foster significant improvement in patient care and outcomes.
• Dictate and document in an accurate and timely manner.
• Perform patient education and maintain provision of preventive health services.
• Conduct or participate in multidisciplinary rounds.
• Participate in the department call rotation and/or weekend/holiday rounding as required.
• Prescribe medication.
• Participate in quality initiatives to ensure consistent attainment of key quality indicators.
• Support IRB approved clinical research/trials through a variety of activities including but not limited to: ordering diagnostic tests, prescreening patients, recording laboratory and diagnostic results, administering therapeutic interventions per trial protocols and documenting outcomes per hospital and trial protocols.
• Act as an advanced resource for the specialty area.
• Perform minor bedside procedures that are appropriate to the specialty patient population and independent of the physician.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Act as a role model and resource person for staff.
• Assist in teaching students, residents and interns in complex techniques and procedures.
• Participate in review and revision of policies and procedures.
• Establish relationships with professional and other health-related groups within the community.
• Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.

Qualifications:

• Education/Training: Nurse Practitioner MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing. Physician Assistant Graduate of accredited physician assistant program.
• Licensure/Certification: Nurse Practitioner APRN license in the state of Florida. After July 1, 2006, licensure applicants are required to have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board. Maintain current BLS certification. Physician Assistant Maintain current physician assistant licensure in State of Florida. Maintain current BLS/healthcare certification.
• Experience: Two years of Advance Practice Provider experience in specialty.
