About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: CFH OR Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours (7:00 AM - 5:00 PM) Experience: Minimum three (3) years of relevant nursing experience. CVOR experience required. Trauma 1 experience highly preferred. License: RN License in good standing in Illinois. Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association). Must-Have: Strong knowledge and skills in CVOR procedures. Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. Provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources. Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. Implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solutions. Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Prepares the operating room suite for patients, including supplies, equipment, medications, and other needs. Interviews patients by utilizing two identifiers (name and date of birth). Transports patients to the appropriate operating room suite and onto the operating room table using safety precautions. Performs timeouts upon entry of the suite, prior to incision, and prior to exiting the operating room suite. Appropriately positions and preps patients for procedures utilizing positional aides and guidelines. Supports the surgical team during procedures by responding to requests, providing extra supplies, blood, specimens, cultures, medications, dressings, etc. Transports patients to the post-anesthesia care unit or specific unit and provides handoff to the receiving RN. The schedule includes four (4) ten-hour shifts with a day off to be determined. On-call duties may require one to two shifts per week and one to two weekends per month. Employees may be floated to general operating room as needed. Travelers are expected to remain in the department unless on break to be available for patient care needs.
