Assistant Cheerleading Coach

Northwestern Regional School District No. 7 is seeking a dedicated Assistant Cheerleading Coach to support the Head Coach in leading the high school cheerleading program. The position is at Northwestern Regional High School No. 7, Winsted, CT, for the Winter Season 2026-2027. Reports to the Head Cheerleading Coach / Director of Athletics and Student Affairs, Aaron Bunel. Employment Type: Seasonal / Stipend Position: $1,315.00.

Position Summary: Northwestern Regional School District No. 7 is seeking a dedicated Assistant Cheerleading Coach to support the Head Coach in leading the high school cheerleading program. The Assistant Coach will assist with instruction and supervision of student-athletes in cheerleading skills, teamwork, and school spirit, while maintaining a safe environment consistent with district policy and CIAC guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, tryouts, and competitions/performances. Help teach proper technique, stunting, tumbling, and safety procedures; supervise student-athletes at practices, games, competitions, and team travel. Support enforcement of CIAC, conference, and district rules, eligibility requirements, and standards of sportsmanship. Communicate professionally with student-athletes, parents/guardians, and the Head Coach; assist with uniform/equipment care and academic eligibility monitoring. Follow district health and safety protocols, including concussion management; assist with rosters, incident reports, and season-end evaluations. Attend required coaches' meetings/trainings; assume Head Coach responsibilities in their absence, as assigned.

Qualifications: High school diploma required (college coursework/degree preferred); prior cheerleading, gymnastics, or coaching experience preferred. CPR/First Aid certification and completion of state-mandated coaching education (CIAC/NFHS Fundamentals, Concussion & Sudden Cardiac Arrest training). Successful state/federal criminal background check and fingerprinting per CT law and district policy. Ability to work evenings/weekends per the competition schedule; strong communication and teamwork skills; willingness to work under the direction of the Head Coach. Preferred: experience assisting or coaching at the HS/collegiate level, AACCA safety certification, or CIAC competition experience.
