Opportunity Details Opportunity Type: Full‑Time Jobs Opportunity Title: KFBRP SAFETY & PROGRAM ASSOCIATE II – ID# 226377 Job Closing Date: July 6, 2026 Salary Monthly Salary Range: $3,927 – $4,071 Duties Maintain KFBRP inventory system and database, tagging incoming items and organizing storage areas. Maintain proactive list of inventory items needed for purchase. Support safe field operations for KFBRP, develop and refine safety and field operation methodology, and serve as KFBRP Safety Officer. Plan, adapt, and implement SOPs for safe field operations for all KFBRP projects. Work with field staff to ensure quality control and safety of all operations; submit injury reports and follow up on personnel issues. Train new staff, track staff training, and assist staff in maintaining certifications and trainings. Act as Helicopter Manager for KFBRP operations, record and report safety issues, and implement resolution processes. Conduct field research and management projects for the recovery of Kauai’s endangered bird species and landscape‑level mosquito control. Operate project vehicles (both on‑ and off‑road); fly helicopters, travel inter‑island as required, and camp up to eight days in remote field sites. Progression series job: increase independence and responsibility with demonstrated competence. Primary Qualifications Education: Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college. Experience: Minimum 3–5 years working in the field and tracking inventory and expenditures; 1–2 years operating a UAS; progression from Level I to higher levels based on competence. Knowledge: Good knowledge of field work, workplace safety, and inventory practices. Abilities & Skills: Excellent organizational, leadership, public relations, communication, problem‑solving, decision‑making, interpersonal, and management skills. Proficiency in following project operational and safety protocols, pesticide handling, and gear/equipment maintenance. Data collection, documentation, report writing, and database entry. Operation and maintenance of small‑mechanized equipment and training staff. Basic mechanical/electrical skills for maintaining equipment, field camps, and vehicles. Computer literacy and Microsoft programs. Valid driver’s license and ability to drive off‑road 4‑wheel drive vehicles. Certification in First Aid/CPR, helicopter manager and flight follower courses, hazard communication training, UAS license, State of Hawai‘i restricted pesticide certification (within specified timeframes). Physical/Mental Demands: Ability to conduct fieldwork in high‑elevation forest (up to 6,500 ft), hike 8–10 miles carrying up to 50 lb, live and work in remote camps up to 9 consecutive days. Secondary Qualifications Experience with endangered species and invasive species control in Hawai‘i. Hawaiian bird survey experience. Interagency aviation training. UAS certification.
