Physicist - Radiation Oncology

The Comprehensive Medical Physicist is responsible for ensuring the safe and accurate delivery of therapeutic ionizing radiation in radiation oncology, interventional radiology, and hospital radiation safety. They collaborate with physicians and staff to perform radiation measurements, verify dosimetry calculations, conduct treatment planning, and perform quality assurance on medical radiation devices. Key duties include maintaining compliance with State and Federal radiation safety regulations, overseeing radiation safety measures hospital-wide, and supporting quality control of linear accelerators and radioactive therapies such as Y-90 and Gamma Tile Cs-131. They manage clinical quality indicators, participate in Radiation Safety Committee meetings, and ensure proper licensing and safety protocols are followed. Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in a related field, registration as a Therapeutic Radiation Physicist with IEMA, and certification as a Specialist in Therapeutic Radiology Physics by the ABR. Preferred experience is at least one year, with skills in radiation measurement, safety surveys, and treatment verification.
