Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant

Overview
Harbor is seeking an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant to join the team in Toledo. This position is responsible for assessing children in childcare settings consistent with an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMH) approach, provides social and emotional coaching and modeling to childcare centers, and provides IECMH trainings for staff at centers.
Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains a professional working relationship with partners in the community, including early childhood providers and program administrators.
- Provides Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMH) services to childcare centers, children, families, and early education staff. Offers individual and programmatic consultation to early care and education providers using evidence-based and evidence-informed mental health strategies.
- Provides on-site coaching and modeling to early childhood staff to support positive behavior management and promote healthy social-emotional development.
- Assess children in early care and education settings to identify social, emotional, behavioral, or developmental needs.
- Support childcare staff in developing and implementing individualized strategies to reduce challenging behaviors and improve classroom climate.
- Act as a liaison among families, childcare providers, and other community agencies to promote coordinated care.
- Assist in the development, distribution, and use of educational materials related to early childhood mental health and child development.
- Collect and enter data as required by ODMHAS into prescribed data systems.
- Participate in Ohio Approved training on early childhood topics for ECMH credential.
- Attend scheduled supervision, team meetings, professional development, First Aid/CPR training and serve on agency committees as appropriate.
- Engage in reflective supervision, arrive on time, come prepared to discuss experiences, and maintain openness to feedback to enhance professional practice.
- Participate in implementation of grant-funded/contract programs and maintain records in compliance with grant requirements. Document services for engaged parties, including families and childcare centers.
- Gather data and assist in preparing reports for funding sources as assigned.
- Manage assigned caseload in accordance with Harbor’s policies and procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, clinical meetings, mandatory training sessions, and continuing education opportunities.
- Ensure all services are provided in a culturally responsive, inclusive, and family-centered manner.
- Stay current with trends and developments related to essential job competencies.
- Facilitate referrals to appropriate resources when indicated.
- Complete billable/contracted clinical services as assigned.
- When completing documentation for billable clinical services, develop and update treatment plans and notations as appropriate; ensure accurate and timely documentation.
Qualifications
- Education : Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Child and Family Studies, Education, or related degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience : Basic knowledge, experience, and demonstrated skill in early childhood development, early care and education, and early childhood mental health; strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; strong written and verbal communication skills; proficient in computer use including Microsoft Word.
- Licensure And Certifications : Ohio ECMH Professional Credential once eligible; may be required to earn Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist (OCPS) certification; must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and show proof of personal auto insurance policy to be deemed insurable with Harbor’s vehicle insurance carrier; CPR/First Aid and NCI/CPI certifications required within 90 days of employment; when applicable, non-licensed staff will be required to complete 20 hours of CEUs every 24 months.
- Preferred Qualifications : Professional license in Ohio preferred (LPC, LPCC, LSW, LISW, etc.); experience in IECMH; understanding of childcare center support and appropriate curriculum and development; knowledge of Ohio Prevention systems.
