Responsibilities Prepares patients for visit by directing and/or accompanying patients to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping patients position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Welcomes patients by greeting patients, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries. Verifies patient information by interviewing patients; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments and equipment; administering medications; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood, preparing patients for x-rays; taking x-rays; removing sutures; changing dressings. Keeps medical and office equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns. Maintains patient confidence and protects medical office operations by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches. Improves medical assisting and medical job knowledge by attending training sessions; reading technical publications. Contributes to medical assisting and medical office success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results. Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards Regular and prompt attendance Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required Related duties as assigned Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required Completion of a Medical Assistant or related healthcare training program required Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA preferred Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of patient rights and laws relative to those rights, such as HIPAA Ability to analyze ideas and use logic to determine strengths and weaknesses. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Ability to build comprehensive reports and effectively convey information to others.
