## Research Scientist 1, Greninger Virology Research Lab (Temporary)Applyremote type: No Teleworklocations: Seattle, WAtime type: Full timeposted on: Posted Todayjob requisition id: REQ-0000130254**Job Description****Who we’re looking for:**The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a one (1) year appointment **Research Scientist 1** with the **Greninger Lab** at **South Lake Union**.As a Research Scientist 1, you will perform technical procedures in Dr. Greninger’s virology research laboratory including, but not limited to, PCR, qPCR, next generation sequencing (NGS), DNA and RNA extractions on biological samples, cell culture, and cloning. You will report the results, organize documents and keep records. Major duties and responsibilities include performing cell culture and viral culture to characterize function of viral non-structural genes, as well as assisting with troubleshooting with existing assays and methodological development of new assays.**Work schedule:*** 100% FTE* One (1) year appointment* Monday - Friday* Day shift**What you’ll contribute:***Scientific Research Activities** Under general supervision, perform experiments according to documented protocols.* Under general supervision, perform scientific investigative procedures such as clinical validation of the techniques outlined above through interpretation of the results – notify supervisor or senior lab members if results are not agreeable with experimental goals.* Assist in troubleshooting problems that arise in research protocols and report problems to the Research Senior Scientist.* Assist supervisor and/or senior lab members in developing techniques including multiplex PCR, next-generation sequencing library preparation, and novel digital PCR tests.* Participate in writing reports about new assay development and continuing data collection and interpretation; participate in presentations to peers and supervisor both at formal lab meetings and informal meetings with colleagues.* Operate and maintain necessary instruments utilized in scientific studies of laboratory experiments, including PCR thermocyclers, qPCR instruments, RNA/DNA fragment bioanalyzer, gel electrophoresis apparati, droplet generator, droplet reader and their associated computers.* Maintain detailed lab records.* Conduct literature reviews and background searches to assist in determining research methods and project planning.*Other Duties** Update specimen inventory.* Inventory reagents and supplies.* General lab cleaning and maintenance.* Operate ancillary equipment such as computers, printers, etc.* Perform related duties as required.* Attend and participate in lab meetings.**Minimum requirements:*** Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, microbiology, chemistry or related field.* One (1) year of experience in a related area to include experience with PCR, primers and probe design, PCR product detection, Next generation sequencing, DNA sequencing analysis, DNA sequence analysis programs.**Desired qualifications:*** Molecular biology background* Experience with PCR, sequencing, computer programming ability to analyze sequencing data.* Good laboratory practice (GLP) skills.* Experience with Excel and Word for data entry and data analyses.**What we offer:*** Vacation time and sick time off that accrue monthly, including 12 paid holidays.* State Employee Tuition Exemption Program covering up to 6 credits of qualifying coursework per quarter at the University of Washington or other participating colleges or universities.* Fully subsidized public transit pass (U-PASS) that covers multiple forms of public transportation in the region.* Excellent healthcare, dental, disability, retirement, and other plan options.* Lots of free fantastic fitness, healthy eating, finance, and stress reduction classes offered through the Whole U.* And much more!**About the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology:**A regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for innovative patient care, research and educational programs, the **Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology** at UW Medicine combines the sophisticated testing and informatics capabilities of fully accredited laboratories with the resources of an academic institution in its delivery of clinical and anatomic pathology services.
