Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice./ppGeneral Position Summary: The School Nurse fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by providing general organizational support within the framework of the schools philosophy, organization, and policies. The School Nurse is responsible for implementing the assigned school health program in a way that is best suited to the school. The School Nurse has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal./ppPrincipal Accountabilities:/pulliSupports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school/liliActs as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church/liliSupports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese./liliAbides by the Confidentiality Policy set forth in the Diocese Employee Handbook/liliSupports the principal in the preparation of documents, reports, and correspondence/liliMaintains current and accurate records according to school policy/liliServes as a health advocate for the child and assesses student health needs/liliAssumes responsibility for management and planning for acute, chronic, and emergency health problems, including appropriate referral and follow-through/liliProvides relevant counseling and guidance to assist children and parents in assuming responsibility for health maintenance of the student in keeping with the teachings of the Catholic church/liliAssists in communicable disease control through implementation of programs for student immunizations, management of suspected and diagnosed infectious disease/liliInitiate referral and follow-up on relevant health needs of the students, and make appropriate interpretation and distribution of health information/liliCoordinates health screenings as required by Texas State Law and see that follow-up care for the students is provided by their parents/liliAnticipates supply and equipment needs appropriate to maintaining a continuous functional health program/liliAllocates appropriate job functions and assume responsibility for supervision of school staff or substitute nurses/liliMeets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese/local administration/liliDemonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits/liliMaintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff/li/ulpImportant job functions:/pulliServes as a professional representative of the principal and school/liliCommunicates effectively with those in the school community/liliCollaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support the school/li/ulpTypical Decisions and/or Recommendations Made in This Position:/ppModerate Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance./ppSupervision Given and/or Received:/ppMinimal supervision given and/or received/ppInternal Contacts:/pulliThe Diocese, Pastors, Priests, Principals, Business Managers, and employees./li/ulpExternal Contacts:/pulliParishioners, diocese vendors, local, state, and federal agency representatives, and auditors./li/ulpWorking Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:/pulliThis position works in a typical office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding needs of the Diocese, tight deadlines and moderate workloads./liliAbility to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods of time./liliAble to access and maintain centralized departmental files. Involves extending arms and reaching files stored in multiple levels on shelves, climbing up a stepladder to access files./liliAbility to accept work interruptions while remaining focused on duties./liliData entry via computer keyboard requires repetitive and frequent hand and wrist movements./liliAbility to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance./liliRequired to work some nights and weekends/li/ulpTravel Requirements:/pulliInfrequent travel, by car, may be required to Diocese Parishes and/or schools./li/ulpEducation and Experience Preferred:/pulliHigh school diploma or equivalent/liliRegistered Nurse, RN, licensed to practice in the state of Texas/liliObtain Certification for CPR/AED, a state vision, hearing, spinal, and Acanthosis Nigricans screener/liliPrevious School Nursing experience preferred/li/ulpKnowledge and Skills Preferred:/pulliKnowledge and skills necessary in health appraisals for identifying student health problems/liliDemonstrated ability to listen empathetically, make peace, and de-escalate/liliDemonstrated history of good judgement./liliDemonstrated aptitude for adaptability and flexibility./liliAbility to use various computer software programs; strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially in Word and Excel./liliAbility to use various office machines (copier, fax, phones, calculator, scanner, etc.) or ability to learn./liliAbility to meet deadlines and follow directives from Pastor or Chief of Staff in a timely manner./liliAbility to receive, understand, retain, and complete verbal and written tasks./liliAbility to work independently as well as in teams./liliAbility to provide excellent customer service and work efficiently with staff, clergy, religious, and laity./liliAbility to honor and maintain confidentiality./liliAbility to work well with people from a diverse variety of audiences./liliExcellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills./li/ulpFLSA Designation: Exempt, (FT, PT or OCC), on-site. Hours align with school operating hours and may include additional responsibilities such as faculty meetings, professional development, and school events./p/div
