The Department of Corrections is seeking candidates for a Corrections Vocational Instructor. Our ultimate mission is to prepare inmates to return to society as contributing, law-abiding citizens. The Corrections Vocational Instructor plays a vital role in the mission through providing assessment and targeted vocational instructional services to offenders.

Key responsibilities may include:

• Provide classroom and performance based instructional services
• Adhere to supporting curriculum
• Set expected learning outcomes
• Prepare lesson plans
• Record student attendance and track in the Kentucky Offender Management System
• Enter and maintain student records, scores and completion dates
• Submit Program Completion certificates
• Supervise teachers' aides and tool room clerks
• Maintain safe and secure learning environment
• Maintain classroom equipment and supplies

Experience in the field of horticulture preferred.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three (3) years of trade-related experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for up to two (2) years of the trade-related experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in a classroom / shop setting within a correctional institution.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
