Inpatient Psychiatrist Position

Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine are seeking a full time Inpatient Psychiatrist at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. Will oversee clinical leadership of a multidisciplinary treatment team providing quality psychiatric care to an acute, adult inpatient population. The typical case load is 10-12 patients daily with an average length of stay of 5-7 days. The position includes an academic appointment at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assessment/evaluation/treatment of psychiatric illnesses
• Psychiatric medication evaluation and management
• Ordering diagnostic tests, medications, and other therapies and collaboration with consultants
• Timely completion of medical record documentation in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, regulatory standards and guidelines
• Coordination and continuation of the care for patients in adherence to state and federal guidelines and discharge planning
• Serving as an on-call physician when scheduled as needed
• Working with and supervising advanced practice providers
• Working with learners, medical students, PA students, residents

Job Requirements:

• Degree from an accredited medical school
• ABPN board certification or eligibility
• Successful completion of accredited residency in Psychiatry
• Skilled in interpersonal communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with patients and families
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
