Professor of Practice - Bar Success

Department: Dean, Law Salary: Commensurate with experience The University of Houston Law Center (Law Center) invites applications for a non-promotion-eligible, non-tenure track, full-time Professor of Practice position for bar exam success. The position can start immediately upon hiring. The UH fiscal year for 2025-2026 ends on 8/31/26. The position would then transition to an academic appointment for 12 months, corresponding to UH’s fiscal year from the start of September 2026 through the end of the following August 2027. The initial appointment may commence mid-year, in which case future annual reappointments will follow the UH fiscal year. The benefits-eligible non-tenure track (NTT) appointment of the position will have a one-year contract period with no presumption of renewal. Reappointment for future years will depend on performance and need for the position. The position is part of the Law Center’s efforts to enhance bar exam success for its graduates. The position will teach section(s) of the Law Center’s various bar success courses. Example courses from prior years are given in the links below:

Other workload may include teaching bar prep workshops, assisting the clinical professors involved with the program in various modes of pedagogical support, working with students one-on-one, and other duties as assigned. The person who obtains the non-tenure track appointment for this position can be an internal candidate eligible to apply for available faculty positions within UHLC. An attorney appointed to the position must, at a minimum, hold a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school. As an NTT position, the appointee will accrue no time toward tenure at the University of Houston.
