Description A child welfare caseworker is responsible for assessing and ensuring the safety and well‑being of children at risk of abuse or neglect. They assess reports of maltreatment, provide support services to families, and coordinate with legal, medical, and community resources to protect children and promote family stability and permanency. The role often involves making difficult decisions regarding out‑of‑home placement for children and youth and ongoing case management. Salary and Benefits Hiring Range: $65,000 - $69,000 USD annually. Salary determined by education, licensure, and experience. Relatable Masters and Licenses receive additional pay. Candidates with second language skills are eligible for additional compensation based on tested language proficiency upon hire. Responsibilities Maintain extensive case documentation within state‑mandated timeframes, including court reports and social histories. Utilize family engagement skills to mitigate risk and enhance safety while working in the office, client homes, and in the community. Assess safety of a child/youth and make decisions, including removal from home when necessary. Advocate for families and children, testify in court, and de‑escalate potentially volatile situations. Work unpredictable hours, including potential late evenings and emergency coverage. Travel daily around the Denver Metro area and periodically throughout Colorado; occasional travel outside Colorado. Address families dealing with substance use disorder, mental health concerns, domestic violence, poverty, abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse. Collaborate with outside agencies to assess and maintain safety of children with law enforcement, courts, schools, treatment providers, and medical professionals. Participate in committee work related to practice and work culture recommendations after one year of employment. Participate in court hearings at least a couple times a month. Maintain monthly face‑to‑face contact with children, youth, parents, kin providers, and out‑of‑home providers. Coordinate resources for child protection, family and adolescent crisis response, delinquency, parent/child conflict, emancipation planning, and facilitate adoptions. Manage cases in which a parent or relative is sexually abusive and work under Sex Offense Management Board guidelines. Work with parents with substance‑use disorder who are high risk and high needs under the FIT court model with weekly court hearings. Intake Caseworker Assess allegations of abuse/neglect through announced and unannounced home visits and refer clients to appropriate services. Determine if safety of the child/youth can be maintained through an assessment or if a court case needs to be opened. Swing Shift Caseworker: 12:00 to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday. Eligible for shift differential of $2,000 over base salary. Permanency Caseworker Ensure permanency for children and youth with parents, kin or adoptive parents. Participate in court hearings at minimum a couple times a month. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Any bachelor’s degree from a college or university with coursework in human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, or therapeutic techniques. Professional, internship, or volunteer work experience in a human‑services related agency (clinical experience, residential childcare, domestic violence case management, etc.). Eligible background checks, including criminal history, child welfare background check, motor vehicle records, and education verification. No convictions for child abuse, violent or unlawful sexual behavior, domestic violence, or drug‑related offenses within the past five years; no pattern of misdemeanor convictions within past ten years. Valid driver’s license with no major violations. Out‑of‑state applicants must obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
