JOB SUMMARY
The Metro Regional Health Program Coordinator is responsible for leading the implementation of Special Olympics Kansas (SOKS) Inclusive Health initiatives throughout the Kansas City metropolitan region and nearby counties (Doniphan, Atchison, Jefferson, Leavenworth, Douglas, Johnson, Osage, Douglas, Johnson, Franklin, Miami, Coffey, Anderson, Linn) while serving as the operational lead for Inclusive Health programming delivered during statewide competitions and major SOKS events. This position develops strategic partnerships with healthcare providers, universities, schools, community organizations, volunteers, and clinical professionals to expand access to quality health programming for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Through exceptional relationship management, operational leadership, event coordination, and community engagement, the Metro Regional Health Program Coordinator strengthens healthcare partnerships, supports successful execution of high-profile events, and advances SOKS' mission by improving health outcomes and expanding Inclusive Health opportunities across Kansas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate Regional Inclusive Health Programs
- Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate Inclusive Health initiatives throughout the assigned region, ensuring programs are delivered effectively and consistently.
- Coordinate regional implementation of Healthy Athletes, Young Athletes, Junior Athletes, Preventative Health Education, Health Messenger, Referral Coordination Services, and other Inclusive Health initiatives.
- Monitor program performance, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and recommend operational enhancements that increase participation, quality, and community impact.
- Support achievement of regional program objectives, grant deliverables, and organizational goals while addressing the unique needs of the metropolitan and surrounding service area.
Lead Statewide & Regional Healthy Athletes
- Serve as the operational lead for Healthy Athletes programming delivered in conjunction with statewide competitions, major SOKS events, and metro-based health initiatives.
- Coordinate Healthy Athletes operations, including event logistics, volunteer assignments, clinical staffing, equipment, supplies, athlete flow, and operational readiness.
- Collaborate with Sports & Competition staff, Regional Health Program Coordinators, Clinical Directors, healthcare partners, and volunteers to ensure successful planning and execution of statewide events.
- Leverage metropolitan healthcare systems, universities, and clinical partners to strengthen statewide volunteer recruitment, healthcare partnerships, and Inclusive Health initiatives.
- Evaluate event operations, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and implement enhancements that elevate the athlete, volunteer, and partner experience.
Collaborate Across the Organization
- Partner with internal departments, Regional Coordinators, volunteers, healthcare providers, schools, and community organizations to ensure successful program delivery.
- Share operational best practices and provide guidance to Regional Health Program Coordinators to promote consistent implementation of Inclusive Health initiatives across the state.
Develop Strategic Regional Partnerships
- Serve as the primary Inclusive Health representative throughout the Kansas City metropolitan region and assigned counties.
- Develop, cultivate, and maintain collaborative partnerships with healthcare systems, hospitals, universities, schools, community organizations, public agencies, volunteers, and other strategic stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to expand Inclusive Health programming by leveraging metropolitan area resources, clinical expertise, and community partnerships.
- Represent SOKS at community meetings, healthcare events, conferences, and networking opportunities to strengthen awareness, engagement, and support for Inclusive Health initiatives.
Recruit and Coordinate Volunteers and Community Partners
- Recruit, engage, and retain volunteers, Clinical Directors, healthcare professionals, and community partners.
- Coordinate volunteer participation for health programming and regional events.
- Maintain positive relationships that support long-term volunteer engagement.
Coordinate Healthcare Education and Outreach
- Partner with healthcare organizations to expand provider education and Inclusive Health awareness.
- Coordinate healthcare training opportunities and community outreach activities.
- Support efforts that increase provider participation and strengthen healthcare partnerships.
Support Youth and Community Health Initiatives
- Expand participation in youth and community-based health programming through schools, early childhood organizations, and community partners.
- Coordinate program implementation, participant enrollment, training, and community outreach activities.
- Collaborate with Unified Champion Schools and community organizations to increase inclusive programming opportunities.
Monitor Program Performance and Reporting
- Maintain accurate program documentation, activity records, and performance data.
- Monitor progress toward program goals and grant requirements.
- Collaborate with the Data & Evaluation Coordinator to ensure accurate reporting and continuous improvement.
EDUCATION & RELATED EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Healthcare Management, Nonprofit Management, Human Services, Social Work, Education, Public Administration, Business Administration, Recreation Management, or a related field preferred.
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in program coordination, community outreach, nonprofit operations, healthcare, public health, education, or a related field.
- Experience coordinating large-scale events, multi-site initiatives, or complex operational activities preferred.
- Experience developing strategic partnerships with community organizations, healthcare providers, schools, volunteers, or other external stakeholders.
- Experience coordinating programs, projects, events, or community initiatives with multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience recruiting, coordinating, or managing volunteers preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, healthcare organizations, nonprofit organizations, or community-based programs preferred.
- Experience collecting, tracking, and reporting program data and performance metrics preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and ability to be insured under organizational policies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Understanding of community engagement, program coordination, project management, and operational planning principles.
- Familiarity with nonprofit, healthcare, public health, education, disability services, or community-based programs.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain strategic partnerships with healthcare systems, universities, clinical professionals, community organizations, and other key stakeholders.
- Experience coordinating large-scale events, complex logistics, and multiple concurrent initiatives involving diverse stakeholders.
- Experience building volunteer engagement strategies, community partnerships, and collaborative stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate programs and community initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proven relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare providers, schools, volunteers, community organizations, families, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a cross-functional team environment.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and facilitate collaboration across departments, regions, and external partners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify solutions and adapt to changing organizational and community needs.
- Experience collecting, maintaining, and reporting accurate program data, documentation, and performance metrics.
- Professionalism and diplomacy in representing the organization while promoting its mission, programs, and community partnerships.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize databases, reporting systems, and other technology platforms.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS
The Metro Regional Health Program Coordinator does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. This position works in close partnership with the Operations Manager, Director of Inclusive Health, Data & Evaluation Coordinator, and other Regional Health Program Coordinators. Additionally, this position will be expected to interact daily with school administrators, athletes, healthcare providers, volunteers, community organizations, clinical directors, and school/early childhood programs, and the general public.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required stand, walk, and crouch. The employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and see using close- and/or distance-vision, and use their hands to touch, grasp, or type. The employee may occasionally be required to reach with their hands and arms, grasp, and lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS
This job requires travel locally and occasionally out-of-state, including evenings and weekends as required for events and may experience inclement weather. This role will work mostly in regulated inside climate but will also be exposed to outside climates, including extreme cold and heat. Due to the numerous responsibilities of the Special Events Coordinator, traveling time and other requirements of the position, the 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. concept of work timeframe is uncommon. This position, as well as other administrative staff of Special Olympics Kansas, must operate with a time-frame concept of "whatever time it takes to ensure quality results".
