Circulation Supervisor

The Role This is an entry‑level supervisory position for paraprofessional staff responsible for performing a variety of technical and paraprofessional duties of a complex nature and supervising customer service staff. Salary FLSA non‑exempt; overtime paid for hours over 40 per week. Grade 316 with an hourly salary between $27.58 and $41.28 (effective 6/27/2026). Benefits The City of Glendale offers a comprehensive benefits package effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave 10.5 paid holidays per year, plus 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year. Vacation accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/year), increasing to 6.12 after 5 years and capped at 7.6 after 10 years. Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/year). Retirement Participates in Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS); mandatory contribution of 12.00% deducted each pay period. Responsibilities Supervises Library Assistants, Public Service Assistants, Security, temporary staff and volunteer customer service staff. Assists with recruitment of assigned staff under direction of the Library Operations Senior Supervisor. Directs, supervises, motivates, and evaluates assigned staff under direction of the Library Operations Senior Supervisor. Assists library customers by checking items in and out, issuing cards, collecting fees, updating records, and placing holds. Balances receipts and reconciles cash amounts in accordance with established procedures. Provides information in person, by email, and by telephone regarding policies, procedures, services, programs, and materials. Answers directional, informational, readers' advisory, and basic reference questions. Uses library‑related computer applications and general computer equipment daily. Provides basic instruction on the use of library reference tools, the online catalog, electronic databases (OCLC), and other resources. May represent the library and community services at outreach events. Assists in developing, implementing, and revising policies and procedures, and recommends new techniques, programs, and services. Researches and resolves patron complaints and problems concerning library materials and services. Evaluates damaged materials for repair or replacement and authorizes adjustments. Prepares bibliographies, bulletin boards, displays, and exhibits. Represents the library at professional meetings and conferences to obtain materials and services. May perform cataloging, report writing, statistical data collection and reporting, archival finding aid preparation, outreach services, library tours, and exhibits. Evaluates donated materials and determines disposition. Keeps current on new library materials and technologies. May open or close the public library building and work evenings or weekends as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate Degree in Library Science or a related field and at least two years of professional library work experience. Knowledge of library policies, procedures, principles, functions, terminology and materials; books, authors, and materials in functional areas; circulation methods; collection management principles, deselection procedures; basic supervisory practices; Dewey Decimal System; Library of Congress subject headings; multi‑media equipment; OCLC. Skill in using personal computers and online automated library systems. Ability to lead effectively, train and develop staff; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish working relationships with city staff and the public; handle sensitive customer situations; resolve problems; maintain high customer service; learn and use automated library systems; follow detailed procedures such as cataloguing and filing rules.
