Position: Operations Director of Healthy Living and Member Experience Location: Red Wing, MN Job Id: 131 # of Openings: 1 Job Title: Operations Director of Healthy Living & Member Experience FLSA Status: Exempt Wage: $55,000-$70,000 Reports to: CEO Position Summary This position serves as a member of the Leadership Team and provides strategic leadership over the Membership and Wellness Departments focused on the member experience and healthy living programs. They will also be advancing the YMCA’s mission through designing, developing, and overseeing the implementation of programs and processes that enhance the member and wellness experience. The Operations Director is someone who shows promise to be an Executive Director/CEO. They will receive coaching and engage in financial development, board development and fundraising. Mission Our Mission is to enhance the quality of life for all individuals and the community through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body. By nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving health and well‑being, and supporting and serving our neighbors, the Y ensures that everyone has the opportunity to become healthier, more confident, connected and secure. Essential Functions Become a subject matter expert and innovator in the core programs of the Y including, but not limited to, membership, healthy living, aquatics, sports, family programming, and any additional Center‑specific programs. Develops and directs high‑quality member engagement strategies and programs which support our Y’s strategic plan. Establish plans for growth and continuous improvement of programs and services in harmony with overall YMCA objectives. Along with CEO provides leadership to the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. Ensure operating budgets meet or exceed targets. Recommend adjustments to the budget to ensure balanced operation and submit relevant reports on current operations in time. Direct reports include Wellness Coordinator and Membership Staff (Desk) Team. Recruits, hires, trains and provides ongoing support to diverse staff and volunteer teams. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve organizational goals. Guides others on how to strengthen knowledge, skills and competencies that improve organizational performance. Works closely with CEO to support the Annual Campaign and effectively communicate community benefit and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (e.g., staff, donors, volunteers, members, community leaders); develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Engages as an active member of the Upper Midwest State Alliance Peer Community as appropriate. Ensures compliance with YMCA standards, accreditation requirements, and applicable local, state, and national regulations. Ensures appropriate staffing coverage and operational support, including hands‑on assistance with programming coverage as needed. Uses effective and persuasive communication skills to represent the Y as a thought leader in the community. Proactively communicates during critical and important situations, such as crisis or disaster situations. Gets things done through others by effectively reading and interpreting the culture, decisions, networks, and politics in the organization. Accept and demonstrate the Y’s values. Desire to serve others and fulfill community needs. Work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions. Assist in developing others. Make sound judgments and transfer learning from one situation to another. Demonstrate an openness to change, and seek opportunities in the change process. Supervisory Responsibility Directly supervises Membership and Wellness teams; carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, mission and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree or a related field equivalent. Three or more years of experience with program leadership, membership teams, budget management and project management. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required within 30 days of hire. Current license to drive and record that meets YMCA standards. Ability to work with technology including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite social media online database software. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations. The Director will work between the front desk and their office to ensure that members and their guests receive positive, respectful service. The work environment will require mobility between different parts of the Y. Will also use standard office equipment: computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a Full‑Time position and expected hours of work are dependent on the needs of the position. Nights and weekends will be necessary as needed. Travel Travel may be necessary while working in this position. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
