Job Description

The Assembly Build Lead oversees the build of custom engineered equipment, guiding technicians through mechanical and electrical assembly while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards. This role is hands-on within a fast-paced manufacturing environment and requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and effective cross-departmental communication to keep builds on schedule and ready for customer buyoff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the assembly of custom engineered tools using assembly drawings, pneumatic and electrical schematics, and electronic drawings.
  • Coordinate and direct assigned technicians to execute mechanical and electrical build activities according to the build schedule.
  • Communicate resource needs, timelines, and build status to appropriate departments to maintain and manage the build schedule.
  • Test and troubleshoot custom tools for functionality prior to internal buyoff and customer shipment, ensuring all performance requirements are met.
  • Manage punch lists before buyoff and pre-shipment, driving timely completion of outstanding items.
  • Perform formal quality checks and verify that all equipment meets internal standards and customer specifications.
  • Prepare shipments by referencing the bill of materials and assist in building shipping crates to protect equipment during transport.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and professional appearance in the shop and during customer interactions.
  • Communicate issues, delays, and cost or time overages to the appropriate departments to support proactive problem resolution.
  • Lead customer buyoffs on-site, demonstrating equipment functionality and addressing any questions or concerns.
  • Install, route, label, and terminate low-voltage control wiring and electrical components according to electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Wire control panels, junction boxes, sensors, switches, and other low-voltage control devices following defined standards and best practices.
  • Install conduit, wireway, cable tray, and other electrical raceways as required for equipment builds.
  • Perform point-to-point wiring and verify connections against electrical schematics to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Use electrical testing equipment, such as multimeters, to test circuits and identify wiring issues or faults.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and low-voltage control systems during assembly, testing, and commissioning to resolve functional problems.
  • Assist with commissioning and startup of custom-engineered equipment, supporting smooth handoff to customers.
  • Identify and correct wiring errors, faulty components, and other electrical issues prior to customer buyoff.
  • Maintain proper wire labeling, cable management, and workmanship standards throughout all builds.
  • Redline electrical drawings to reflect as-built conditions and communicate required changes or discrepancies to engineering personnel.
  • Collaborate closely with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, and Fabrication teams to resolve build issues.
  • Follow applicable electrical, safety, and company standards when installing and testing equipment.
  • Assist with training and directing assigned technicians on electrical assembly and wiring tasks, promoting best practices and safety.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5+ years of strong mechanical assembly and troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing or equipment build environment.
  • Proven experience leading equipment builds or production teams, including directing technicians and coordinating tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities while maintaining quality and deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of pneumatic systems and mechanical fitment for custom tools and equipment.
  • Basic familiarity with PLC field devices, sensors, I/O blocks, and automation hardware.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage build schedules, punch lists, and documentation.
  • Clear and professional communication skills for cross-departmental coordination and customer interactions.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Leadership mindset with a willingness to coach, support, and train technicians.
  • Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to quality in assembly and wiring work.

Work Environment

This role is based in a very clean, organized, and climate-controlled manufacturing facility operating on a 1st shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The environment is hands-on, with a focus on custom engineered tools, mechanical and electrical assembly, and close collaboration with engineering, project management, and fabrication teams. The facility supports a professional appearance and promotes safe, efficient work practices throughout the shop and build areas.

This is a Permanent position based out of Bellefontaine, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $54080.00 - $72800.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
