As a Highway Maintenance Technician, you are responsible for performing various maintenance duties, under limited supervision, to provide a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system. We are seeking a Highway Maintenance Technician for the Maintenance Program located in Jackson, Wyoming.Jackson Hole offers a vibrant mix of outdoor adventure and cultural charm. Our total compensation package includes:Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurancePaid vacation, sick leave, FMLA, and holidaysRetirement - Pension and 457B plans that help you build a secure futureFlexible schedules and work-life balance optionsMeaningful work that makes a difference for Wyoming communities and much more!Human Resource Contact: Terra Poling / View email address on click.appcast.io / 307-352-3048Essential functions:Maintains and operates complex equipment safely and proficientlyAssists with training other technicians in the operation and maintenance of equipmentUnder limited supervision, flags traffic and sets up traffic control devicesOperates heavy equipment including, but not limited to: single and tandem axle trucks, equipped with an auger, aerial lift equipment, or equipped with plows, wing plows, sanders, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from the roadway surfaceResponsible for rehabilitation of roadway surfaces and/or traffic control devices such as signs and pavement markingsResponsible for general maintenance of highway-related facilities such as rest areas; this may include performing water and waste water treatment according to EPA and DEQ requirementsAttends and completes all state and federal training required to obtain/maintain certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skillsCommunicates information in order to update others' status and/or process effectivenessUtilizes computers for agency practices, such as for training and performance evaluations, and keeps up to date on technological advances with specialized equipmentPerforms duties involved in removing snow and ice from roadways; determines effectiveness of treatments and may determine when a change in treatment is necessaryResponsible for adhering to all state and federal safety and quality standards, including the correct use of all associated personal protective equipmentPreferences:Preference may be given to applicants who have a current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements prior to employment.Must have the ability to obtain water certifications if necessary.Must have the ability to obtain a Certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT.Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion in Defensive Driving.Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger certification.Knowledge:Knowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standardsKnowledge of state and federal highway safety standards and traffic control proceduresKnowledge of equipment maintenance and repair procedures.Knowledge of hazardous materials response proceduresKnowledge of federal and state requirements for the proper use of personal protective equipmentKnowledge of basic equipment operation for single and tandem axle trucks, loaders, and tractorsKnowledge of safe work procedures, First Aid, and CPR, and OSHA Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in maintenance activitiesKnowledge of and the ability to utilize basic office equipment such as computers, calculators, and telephonesMinimum qualifications:Education & Experience Substitution:2-4 years of relative work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction)Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within twelve (12) months of hireOREducation:Associate's Degree (typically in Engineering)Experience:0-1 year of relative work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction)Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within twelve (12) months of hirePhysical working conditions:Frequent use of manual and powered hand toolsDaily use of motor vehicles and heavy equipmentFrequent exposure to hazardous materialsAbility to lift and/or carry 50 pounds independentlyAbility to stand/sit and operate equipment for long periods of timeWork in adverse environmental conditions which may include but not be limited to rain, snow, heat, and hailAbility to walk long periods of time on even and uneven groundWorking around high speed traffic and heavy construction equipmentOccasional overnight travel is required.Notes:FLSA: Non-ExemptWYDOT conducts motor vehicle record checks to verify that candidates possess a valid driver's license.Individuals in these positions must pass a pre-employment drug screening and/or physical and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.Individuals in these positions must be available for emergency work calls at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Acceptance of an appointment to this classification signifies that the individual is aware of this requirement and will comply with it.
