Surgical Technologist

Job Description The Surgical Technologist performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. The technologist supports system‑wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices, and actively participates in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined. Essential Functions Ensure the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria. Maintain a sterile field and a safe environment. Recognize and address sharps and fire safety processes. Prepare the operating room and instruments for the surgical procedure. Assist with sterile processing as needed. Assist the surgeon(s) during the procedure while staying within the ORT scope of practice. Identify emergency situations and exercise judgment when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies. Assist with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation for the next procedure. Pursue the pathway opportunity for advancement to ORT II, III, and IV. Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician (ORT) program, or Graduation from a non‑accredited surgical tech program within the past six months (not eligible for Tech in Surgery exam), or Two years of scrub tech experience in hospital/military surgical services within the last three years, or International training equivalent and legally authorized to work in the U.S. Competence in basic procedures or one or more specialty areas/facility case mix. Able to take assigned call. Minimum Qualifications (LevelII) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers. Competence in basic procedures and one or more specialty areas and/or facility case mix. Able to take assigned call. Must be in good standing. Minimum Qualifications (LevelIII) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers. Competence in basic procedures and two or more specialty areas such as Ortho, Robotics, Neuro, CV, Trauma, Transplant, Reimplants, and/or facility case mix. Able to take assigned call. Must be in good standing. Preferred Qualifications Surgical Technologist with 1+ years of experience. Proficiency scrubbing into Ortho, Robotics, General Surgery, GYN, ENT, and Urology cases. Active national certification as an OR Tech in Surgery or Certified Surgical Technologist (certification required within the timeframe outlined below). Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors and identify equipment and supplies. Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors during emergencies. Manual dexterity for manipulating complex equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing. Expected to lift, move, and transfer patients, including heavy items. Navigate crowded and busy rooms, push/pull gurneys and equipment. May be required to stand for extended periods. Location and Hours Intermountain Health, Intermountain Medical Center – Murray, Utah.
