The Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin Transplant Service Line and the MCW Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Transplant Hepatologist to join our Transplant Hepatology team. Opportunity Overview:- Full-time faculty position within the MCW Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Department of Medicine in conjunction with the Froedtert & MCW Transplant Service Line
- New state-of-the-art Digestive Disease Center opened in early 2024 including opportunity to perform liver biopsies
- Fully accredited ACGME Gastroenterology & Hepatology Fellowship program with 13 fellows with intent to initiate a Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program. Fellows allotted to Transplant/Hepatology consultative service and round with faculty 7 days a week. This is a large and vibrant training program with transplant hepatology/general hepatology call coverage provided by fellows under faculty supervision and fellow endoscopy call coverage of hepatology/transplant hepatology patients supervised by the gastroenterology faculty
- Opportunity to build a practice in transplant hepatology and general hepatology at Froedtert Hospital, and various other outreach facilities
- Interest in outreach clinic efforts in collaboration with the current 4 transplant hepatologists to help grow and expand hepatology access for patients
- Serve as a consultant on general and transplant hepatology patients
- Contribute to the clinical education of fellows, residents, medical students, and other trainees
- Participate in the academic, research and educational missions of MCW with robust support for clinical research
- Focus on a patient-centered approach to delivery of care, and engage in a climate of inquiry, quality, & safety
- Collaborate with the hepatologists, 7 hepatology APPs, gastroenterologists, and medical/surgical transplant faculty to expand our existing transplant hepatology program
- Full advanced endoscopy support including ERCP and EUS services available as well as GI endoscopy support
- Strong APP, nutritional, & pharmacy support
- 60% clinical / 40% administrative & leadership with 4 half-days protected time per week for leadership/administrative duties
- Round on inpatient transplant patients, approximately every 7th week
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds (AMs), outpatient clinic (PMs), and 1-2 endoscopy/clinic sessions on non-call weeks
- Call: 1:4, week-long call blocks with no additional morning duties (GI endoscopists handle endoscopy calls at night)
- No outreach travel required, however virtual outreach & growth are strategic goals
The Transplant Hepatologists at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) are part of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and work extremely collaboratively with the surgical team from the Division of Transplant Surgery. The transplant hepatology practice is a dynamic and rapidly growing program recognized for its collaborative, patient-centered approach and commitment to clinical excellence. In partnership with Froedtert Hospital, the division plays a central role in Southeast Wisconsin's leading liver transplant program, with steadily increasing transplant volumes and outstanding outcomes. The multidisciplinary team includes experienced hepatologists, transplant surgeons, advanced practice providers, and dedicated support staff who work together to deliver comprehensive care across the continuum-from pre-transplant evaluation to long-term post-transplant management. The division benefits from strong institutional support, a new state-of-the-art Digestive Disease Center, and close collaboration with its GI colleagues as well as support from not only surgery and critical care teams, but also from a myriad of other services. A dedicated transplant ICU facilitates rapid access for critically ill patients and provides comprehensive state-of-the-art care. With access to a robust patient population, academic resources, and opportunities for teaching and leadership, the division offers an exceptional environment for a medical director to make a meaningful and lasting impact.
- 4 senior and 1 junior faculty members
- Excellent team-based culture with close collaboration between hepatologists, transplant surgeons, and advanced practice providers (APPs)
- Dedicated team of 5 outpatient APPs (3 highly experienced) and 2 inpatient APPs, all with strong hepatology backgrounds
- GI fellows rotate with hepatology daily, including weekends
- Looking to hire 2 additional junior faculty, which would result in a 1:7 call if the Medical Director is also hired
The Transplant Service Line is a joint program of Froedtert Hospital, the academic medical center of the Froedtert Health Network and Medical College of Wisconsin, with vital support by Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin for tissue typing & research initiatives. The Service Line encompasses transplant programs in liver, kidney, pancreas, heart, and lung. Representing the most comprehensive pediatric and adult transplant care in Wisconsin and the region, the service line is recognized for nationally ranked outcomes, internationally known medical and surgical transplant specialists, and end-stage disease management, innovation, and ground-breaking research. It is a critical resource for Wisconsin & beyond. Qualifications:
- Completion of an Internal Medicine residency, Gastroenterology Fellowship, and Transplant Hepatology training
- Eligible for or completion of the CAQ (Certificate of Added Qualification) in Transplant Hepatology
- Eligible for full, unrestricted licensure in Wisconsin
