Director, Transportation Safety & Compliance (USFS) - GSC - US

Our Global Support Center/ Corporate Office is in the Energy Corridor- off I10 and N Eldridge. Address: 1390 Enclave Pkwy, Houston, TX 77077 This is a hybrid position requiring an on-site presence 3 to 4 days per week. Please note that the number of days on-site can increase based on business needs. Job Summary: Under the umbrella of the newly created Global Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance team, this role will support Sysco’s US foodservice companies coast to coast. The role exists to provide transportation safety and regulatory compliance expertise to reduce and control Sysco’s exposure to transportation operational risk. The role aims to accomplish the following: Building a compelling case for change while maintaining excellent relationships with various stakeholders at all levels of management to support transportation safety objectives and a shift in culture. Developing policies, programs, procedures and other tools to support the field safety & fleet and facilities teams to ensure the execution of the transportation safety and compliance goals. Integrating the transportation safety and compliance objectives into the various USFS business segments to ultimately support Sysco’s overall business strategy. Duties and Responsibilities: Design standardized transportation safety policies, training, campaigns and programs to reduce corporate and human capital risk, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Design standardized transportation compliance reports and audit protocols to ensure compliance with federal/state/local laws, driver compliance with company regulations and ensuring FMCSA registrations are maintained. Provide leadership, direction and subject matter expertise for transportation safety and compliance (including driver minimum qualification standards, driver qualification files, DOT drug and alcohol program, transportation safety methods, training courses etc.). Partner and collaborate with all functional leaders to influence and manage transportation safety and compliance resources, projects, and business decisions. Create a network of internal (human resources, talent acquisition, supply chain, finance, legal, corporate claims and analytics) and external alliances (industry partners, State safety groups) to develop and implement transportation safety & compliance policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, and processes Design and execute injury prevention programs/initiatives to motivate and influence the creation of a world class transportation safety culture and minimize injury risk. Analyze and identify trends that increase injury and accident frequency/severity; develop and direct the implementation of training programs using the appropriate media. Support claims programs (workers compensation, motor vehicle, property damage). Education Required: Associates degree with major course work in EHS, risk management safety/industrial/environmental engineering or a closely related field is required. Experience Required: 10+ years of Federal and State Department of Transportation (DOT) related experience with large national or multi-national companies with multiple sites. Strong knowledge of applicable OSHA and FMCSA regulatory requirements. Experience Preferred: Experience with vehicle video telematics solutions is highly preferred. Licenses/Certifications Preferred: The following are highly desirable: Certification specializing in US Department of Transportation regulations. FMCSA certified instructor. Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Technical Skills and Abilities: Excellent ability to develop and present business plans and strategies to influence company decision makers. Experience leading and motivating cross-functional and diverse teams in both matrix and non-matrix organization. Ability to coordinate planning and collaboration with other business functions in a way that is mutually beneficial and drives continuous improvement. Ability to drive a strong transportation safety philosophy and implement programs designed to effectively change behavior and prevent injury using data- and research-driven methods. Ability to analyze and independently resolve a variety of difficult situations and problems using timely decision making. Excellent analytical skills and interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with all levels of senior management, supervision and employees. Actively drives performance and vehemently strives to strategically solve problems and follow projects through to completion. Significant project management skills required to ensure annual plans are executed at all levels. Adapts well to and initiates change in the organization. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact and influence effectively with all levels of management, employees, and customers and experience collaborating with union Language Requirements: English Required; Bilingual in Spanish highly valued. Work Environment: Must be able to utilize office equipment such as desktop/notebook computers, copiers, printers, scanners, telephones, and calculators. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
