Airport Blvd, Sanford, FL 32773 Job Overview Nursing Program Specialist (NPS) reports to the Operations & Management Consultant Manager – SES and serves on the Tuberculosis (TB) Program healthcare team. The role is an advanced, autonomous public health nursing position responsible for TB case management, clinical coordination, and epidemiological support. The position requires in‑office or field work and on‑call services as needed. Key Responsibilities Receive and triage referrals for individuals with latent TB infection (LTBI) or active TB disease from community providers, hospitals, and laboratories. Perform comprehensive medical record abstraction and risk assessment to gather epidemiological information. Coordinate with hospital infection preventionists, TB Physicians Network (TBPN), and State TB Control Section (TBCS) to develop and implement diagnostic and treatment plans. Order initial medication and refills under standing orders, protocols, or physician direction and provide medications to clients as needed. Monitor clinical progress, treatment compliance, and symptom changes, escalating concerns to TBPN and TBCS. Support the Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) with directly observed therapy (DOT) and conduct DOT when required. Organize contact investigations in household, occupational, and other settings, collecting data from laboratories, medical providers, schools, and facilities. Obtain and organize laboratory sample collection (e.g., blood, sputum for AFB/culture, therapeutic drug levels). Perform tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) and interpret results to guide further action. Conduct healthcare facility and home visits to complete investigations, counsel clients, and recommend preventative measures. Document all clinical services in HMS, TB Application Portal (TAP), or other required systems. Maintain clinical and office supply inventory, attend state and local TB meetings, and provide education on TB epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Conduct targeted outreach in communities or populations at increased risk for TB or LTBI, offering education, testing, and coordination with TBPN for treatment. Cross‑train nursing staff across Refugee Health, Immunizations, HIV, STD, and Family Planning programs as needed. Assist with chart audits, medication inventory monitoring, temperature log maintenance, and training of staff and students on clinical workflows and documentation standards. Provide emergency duty as required during emergencies, natural disasters, outbreaks, pandemics, or terrorist events. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Prioritization and time‑management to ensure assignment completion. Effective communication, active listening, and relationship building. Application of public health laws, clinical protocols, and program policies. Collection, analysis, and interpretation of clinical and epidemiological data. Independent work and problem solving with sound decision making. Knowledge of preventive health care theory, nursing principles, and specialized practices. Familiarity with community resources and organizations. Clinical assessment and interpretation of diagnostic results (labs, imaging, TST/IGRA, sputum testing). Field investigation, home visit, and healthcare facility assessment skills. Infection control, isolation, and disease transmission principles. Medication management, adherence strategies, and treatment plan monitoring. Use of clinical judgment to consult physicians and medical directors. Patient education in a culturally competent manner. Accurate clinical documentation in multiple electronic systems. Emergency response and after‑hours operation. Confidentiality and patient privacy protection. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, HMS, TAP, Florida SHOTS, and Infinitt. Qualifications Minimum Registered Nurse license in Florida (Chapter 464) or eligibility to practice under Florida Administrative Code 210‑8.22 or 8.27. HIV 500/501 certification or completion within 90 days of hire. Willingness to work in‑office or field and perform field work as required. Willingness to work before, during, and beyond normal hours in emergencies. Ability to perform phlebotomy on adults and children. Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited institution. Experience in a Tuberculosis, Refugee Health, or Epidemiology Program. Experience with direct patient care, electronic health records, and injectable medication administration. Proficiency with HMS and Florida State Health Online Tracking System (FL SHOTS).
