J ob Summary The Generator Technician will be responsible for performing power generation equipment preventive maintenance, in-depth corrective maintenance and complete start-up testing as assigned. In addition, they will prepare written estimates for recommended corrective repairs noted during any service. The outcome of this position is to provide direct hands-on maintenance of customer's power generation equipment in order to support all aspects in the overall service and parts sales associated with the Service Department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily including the following. Perform troubleshooting on Power Generation equipment Perform PM Maintenance and load bank testing. Perform startup commissioning service on new power generation equipment. Assist customers, dealers with technical support in person or in the field. Display ability to follow instructions and work well with virtually no supervision. Display the ability to apply knowledge and learning to future, more complex jobs. Carry out instructions in written, or diagram form. Perform complex problem solving and make logical decisions. Be self-motivated. Transport parts and tools to worksites. Perform diagnostic testing, pulling cable, caring tools and other items. Maintain a clean driving record. Demonstrate ability to travel as required. Clearly and concisely document all work and repairs completed by following all documentations procedures as instructed. Assist in preparing complex procedures and documentation required to perform tasks. Communicate with customers and dealers in the support of generator troubleshooting Provide and maintain own hand tools and meters required to perform basis job functions Display sufficient computer knowledge to perform all job junctions. Follow all safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment. Be available to respond to any emergency calls 24/7. Other duties as required. Qualifications/Experience/Education/Skills Education and Training Highschool diploma or Equivalent required with Post-secondary education in Generator engineering, electrical technology, or a related field is often preferred. Technical Skills: Proficiency in using hand and power tools for electrical work. Generator Systems: Familiarity with various types of generators, including diesel generators, gas generators, and standby generators. Licensing and Certification: Drivers License required Plus such as an electrical contractor's license or a generator technician certification. Customer Service: Good customer service skills, especially if the position involves interacting with clients or providing technical support. Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation, which includes a motor vehicle check, and drug screen. Must be able to progress through the qualification levels within a defined timeline. Technicians must fully complete 100% of the required items and skills listed for their current Level before being considered for advancement to the next Level The progression timeline is as follows: Level 0 to Level 1 = 6-12 months Level 1 to Level 2 = 12-24 months Level 2 to Level 3 = 36-60 months Strong communication skills, to include written, oral and active listening; clear and persuasive in negative or positive situations; asks relevant questions to get clarification; conveys thoughts and ideas in a concise manner; responds well to questions and feedback; demonstrates group participation skills.
