Research Security Analyst

Hiring Department Ethics, Compliance & Audit Services Job Description The Research Security Analyst supports the University of Missouri's research security, controlled research, export controls, and sanctions compliance programs through risk analysis, compliance monitoring, due diligence reviews, and stakeholder engagement. This position conducts research security reviews, supports export control compliance activities, coordinates controlled research onboarding and monitoring, and assists with the development and implementation of institutional compliance processes designed to protect research activities and maintain compliance with federal regulations, sponsor requirements, and university policies. The Research Security Analyst works closely with faculty, researchers, research administrators, information security personnel, legal counsel, and other institutional stakeholders to identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks associated with domestic and international research activities. Conduct reviews of research activities, agreements, awards, contracts, international collaborations, foreign engagements, visitors, and travel activities to identify research security, export control, and other compliance requirements. Perform restricted party screening, due diligence reviews, and open-source research using approved screening tools and authoritative sources. Document review and screening results, identify potential concerns, and escalated complex or high-risk matters for additional review and resolution. Support institutional compliance with federal research security requirements, including reviews of foreign affiliations, collaborations, appointments, funding relationships, and other potential foreign influence risks. Provide support for export control reviews involving parties, destinations, end users, end uses, technologies, equipment, software, and research activities. Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and periodic review of Technology Control Plans and related controlled research documentation. Track corrective actions and follow up with responsible stakeholders to support timely completion of remediation activities. Provide guidance and consultation to faculty, researchers, research administrators, and other stakeholders on research security and compliance requirements. Contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of research security and export compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls Assist in the development and delivery of training, outreach, and awareness programs related to research security, controlled research, export controls, sanctions, and international research activities. Shift Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications Experience conducting compliance monitoring, risk assessments, investigations, due diligence reviews, intelligence analysis, audits, or other structured compliance and security assessments. Experience conducting open-source research, restricted-party screening, due diligence reviews, supply chain risk assessments, foreign influence assessments, or other investigative research activities. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information and operate with a high degree of discretion, sound judgment, accountability, and attention to detail. Experience managing compliance reviews, investigations, audit findings, corrective actions, case management activities, or projects requiring structured follow-up and documentation. Experience developing, implementing, or improving workflows, standard operating procedures, internal controls, compliance processes, checklists, dashboards, metrics, or reporting tools. Experience reviewing contracts, grants, cooperative agreements, subawards, statements of work, research agreements, or similar documents to identify compliance, security, or regulatory requirements. Experience working in higher education, federal contracting, government, military, defense, intelligence, cybersecurity, research administration, research compliance, or another highly regulated environment. Familiarity with federal research security requirements, including NSPM-33, foreign talent recruitment program restrictions, research security disclosure requirements, and federal sponsor expectations related to international research collaborations. Familiarity with federal export compliance (International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) requirements Anticipated Hiring Range Salary Range: $55,000 - $80,000 annually Grade: GGS 10 University Title: Senior Compliance Manager Internal applicants can determine their university title by accessing the Talent Profile in myHR.
