Description

American Traveler is hiring a Cardiac Telemetry RN for a night shift position requiring at least 2 years of cardiac floor experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Cardiac Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
• Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:4 for surgical step-down, 1:5-6 for lower acuity
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 36 hours per week (18:45-07:15)
• 13-26 week assignment length accepted
• Floating required per unit rotation, not first to float
• Weekend requirement of 4 shifts per 4-week period (flexible)
• Patient population includes Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, vasculitis, carotid stenosis, and venous stasis
• Cares for patients undergoing CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO/Watchman, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, fem-pop bypass, amputations, and other vascular/cardiac/thoracic surgeries
• Manages post-cath, post-DCCV, and post-electrophysiology procedure patients, including pacemaker placements
• Uses arterial lines, Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-Stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires
• Utilizes Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication systems

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (pending license/certs OK at submission)
• Minimum 2 years of cardiac floor experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
• Skilled in cardiac telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown care, sheath removal, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience managing post-MI and pre/post cardiac cath patients
• Able to manage cardiac drips (titration preferred)
• Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), external CPAP/BIPAP, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
• Preferred experience with arterial line management, wound care/wound vac, and charge nursing
• EPIC charting experience preferred
• First-time travelers not accepted unless they have more than 24 months of cardiac experience

Additional Information

• Provide cardiac telemetry nursing care including dysrhythmia monitoring, sheath management, and post-procedure care for cardiac and vascular surgical patients
• May be assigned to a Storm Team/Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
• Consolidation to a centralized office mid-contract may occur, with reassignment to units as needed
• Unit orientation is 24 hours
• Navy scrubs required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
• Former Novant/New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
• Current travel or per diem clinicians must choose one status and disclose intent at submission
• Up to 7 days of RTO auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO allowed during first week; must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed
