Position Description

The University of Washington’s Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and the Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center have an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to join an NIH-funded project investigating the development of binaural hearing. We will collect neural and behavioral measures of binaural processing, including interaural time differences, interaural level differences, and spatial release from masking, in typically hearing and hard-of-hearing infants and children. We will integrate these measures in multimodal predictive models of individual differences in speech-in-noise performance. The long-term goal of this research is to develop objective assessments that identify listening difficulty earlier, hearing technologies that enhance listening in noise, and personalized treatments that improve academic and developmental outcomes.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team investigating early auditory brain and language development in infants and children.

We seek a researcher with expertise in EEG analysis, proficiency in programming and machine learning, and a commitment to developmental neuroscience. Experience with hard-of-hearing populations or hearing aids is highly desirable.

This position is full-time with an initial one-year appointment, renewable based on performance. The primary work location is Seattle, WA.

The anticipated start date is December 1, 2026 or later.

The base salary for this position will be $5,705 per month ($68,460 per year), or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a PhD or foreign equivalent in neuroscience, speech and hearing sciences, engineering, or a related field.

In addition, we are looking for candidates who bring:

• Expertise in EEG acquisition, signal processing, and data analysis
• Proficiency in programming
• Experience with machine learning, especially with EEG applications
• Experience in auditory research, especially related to hearing aids, binaural hearing, or related domains
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team
