Davenport Screw Machine Setup Operator in Commerce, CA — $27.88–$38.00/hr DOE, 2nd shift after 1st-shift training, contract-to-hire. Set up and run multiple Davenport multi-spindle screw machines.

THE BASICS

Pay: $27.88–$38.00/hr DOE

Shift: Training: 1st shift, 5:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.; regular: 2nd shift, 1:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Workdays confirmed before submission.

Location: Commerce, CA 90040 (on-site)

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is Davenport setup work, with two machines running and precision parts to keep in spec.

Perform complete setups and operate at least two Davenport machines concurrently. Produce precision components, including Inconel and titanium parts, to tolerances as tight as ±0.0001 inch.

You must be available to train on 1st shift before moving to the regular 2nd shift. Expect extended standing, frequent tooling adjustments, and bending, reaching, and twisting into awkward positions during setups and repairs.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Perform complete Davenport multi-spindle screw machine setups independently

- Run at least two Davenport machines concurrently

- Set tooling, cams, timing, springs, collets, feeds, speeds, and cut depths

- Perform knurling, threading, grinding, drilling, cutting, and precision turning

- Read blueprints, routers, and technical specifications

- Inspect first articles and production parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and SPC

- Troubleshoot tooling wear, dimensional variation, and machine issues

- Record production counts, tooling activity, and inspection results

WHAT YOU NEED

- Experience independently setting up Davenport multi-spindle screw machines

- Ability to operate multiple machines concurrently

- Knowledge of bar and chucker machines, cams, collets, and cutting tools

- Ability to hold tolerances to ±0.0001 inch

- Strong blueprint reading and precision inspection skills

- Experience with SPC and precision measuring instruments

- Ability to troubleshoot machine, tooling, and dimensional problems independently

NICE TO HAVE

- Aerospace or journeyman-level screw machining experience

- Inconel, titanium, stainless steel, or alloy steel machining experience

- Davenport 5-, 6-, or 8-spindle machine experience

- First article inspection, bar feeder, or high-volume production experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Stand for extended periods; frequently handle and adjust tooling, raw stock, and machined parts; bend, reach, twist, and work in awkward positions during setups and repairs. Perform close visual inspection and precision measurements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Precision shop with rotating screw machines, moving equipment, oils and lubricants, metal chips and airborne particles, industrial noise, vibration, and temperature fluctuations. PPE is required and provided, and all plant safety procedures apply.
