Job Title: Cashier Company: Houchens Food Group (HFG) Department: Grocery Job Status: Full Time or Part Time Reports To: Store Manager/Assistant Manager FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt Grade/Level: High School or Equivalent Travel Required: As Needed Work Schedule: Shift includes nights, weekends, and overtime as needed. Shift is scheduled by store manager. Position Overview Responsible for working a shift accurately and efficiently within company policy to ensure store profitability. Receive and disburse money in establishments other than financial institutions. Use electronic scanners, cash registers, or related equipment. Process credit or debit card transactions and validate checks. Core Responsibilities Receive payment by cash, check, credit card, voucher, or automatic debits. Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers. Count money in cash drawers at shift start to confirm amounts and ensure adequate change. Greet customers upon entering the store. Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas. Establish or identify prices of goods, services, or admissions, and tabulate bills using calculators, cash registers, or optical price scanners. Issue trading stamps and redeem food stamps and coupons. Resolve customer complaints. Answer customers’ questions and provide information on procedures or policies. Cash checks for customers. Weigh items sold by weight to determine prices. Calculate total payments received during a specified period and reconcile it with total sales. Compute and record transaction totals. Sell tickets and other items to customers. Bag, box, wrap, or gift‑wrap merchandise and prepare packages for shipment. Process merchandise returns and exchanges. Request information or assistance using paging systems. Stock shelves and mark prices on shelves and items. Compile and maintain non‑monetary reports and records. Monitor checkout stations to ensure adequate cash and appropriate staffing. Offer customers carry‑out service at the completion of transactions. Observe scheduled shift hours as assigned by the store manager or assistant manager. Abide by all city, county, state, and federal regulations. Provide prompt and courteous service to all customers. Perform tasks assigned by the store manager or assistant manager. Notify the manager of all cash discrepancies. Operate within company guidelines to achieve sales and profits. Record all shift hours on the time clock and sign the time ticket report. Record all sales at the time of purchase. Accurately record markups, markdowns, spoilage, and store use of merchandise per company procedures. Prepare shift‑checkout report at the end of shift. Inform the manager of any personal situations or policy violations negatively affecting store operations. Advise other cashiers of operational problems. Maintain a low cash drawer and use the safe as directed. Complete shift‑checkout report at appropriate times as instructed. Follow vendor check‑in procedures within company guidelines. Perform a variety of cleaning duties including cleaning front windows, clearing check stands, cleaning carts, sweeping floors, dusting shelves, and carrying trash to outside containers. Clean parking lot and surrounding grounds. Perform other related duties as requested by management staff. Qualifications Accountability – Accept responsibility and account for actions. Climb, crawl, squat, kneel, bend: occasional or not applicable as specified. Push/pull up to 26‑40 lbs occasionally; larger weights not applicable. Work up to 33% of time (≈0‑2.5+ hrs/day), 33‑66% of time (≈2.5‑5.5+ hrs/day), or >66% of time (≈5.5+ hrs/day).
