Job Description Summary MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina. The Certified Medical Assistant performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized patient‑centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes, and assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Entity MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) Worker Type Employee Worker Sub‑Type Regular Cost Center CC004977 MCP - Primary Care Bridgemill Pay Rate Type Hourly Pay Grade Health-22 Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Job Description The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information into patients’ medical records. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Performs basic computer tasks and maintains annual competencies. Executes therapeutic procedures following detailed instructions and makes accurate physical observations of patients. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing. Minimum Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program. One year of patient care experience preferred. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health Career Association (NHA), MedCA, or as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, either the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Physical Requirements Basic ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, work in elevated areas, and perform tasks in confined or cramped spaces. Ability to kneel, bend, twist at the waist, squat, and perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands. Ability to reach overhead, perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders, and use lower extremities for balance and coordination. Ability to lift and carry 50 lb. unassisted, lift objects 50 lb. from floor up to 36 inches unassisted, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lb., and exert up to 50 lb. of force. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision (corrected) in one or both eyes, see and recognize objects at close and distant ranges, discriminate colors and perceive depth. Maintain hearing acuity (with correction) and perform gross motor functions with fine motor movements. Handle stressful situations, work rotating shifts, overtime as required, and work in a latex‑free environment. Maintain tactile and olfactory sensory functions, and qualify physically for respirator use as required.
