Position Summary The Clinical Nurse II – Per Diem and LTA – provides direct and indirect patient and family care in inpatient, surgical, and ambulatory care settings. The nurse competently performs RN responsibilities, delegates, and supervises care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and professional nursing role, collaborating with the clinical team and using critical pathways or multidisciplinary care plans. Principal Responsibilities Collect and assess data with multidisciplinary teams to deliver therapeutic care. Follow prescribed plans of care and document progress toward outcomes. Maintain continuity of care through concise communication with charge or unit managers. Clinical Practice Provide nursing care tailored to patient age‑specific needs. Encourage patient and family participation in care. Evaluate and document patient response to interventions. Establish acceptable interpersonal relationships with co‑workers, patients, and families. Communicate patient progress to charge nurse and other health‑care practitioners. Use equipment, medicines, and modalities such as CPR, and demonstrate knowledge of purpose and expected outcomes. Service / Quality Facilitate cost control by consulting with charge nurse on predominant patient problems. Respect patient/family cultural beliefs and implement interventions per critical pathways. Demonstrate trust, respect, honesty, and caring attitudes toward patients, families, and the care team. Participate in performance improvement, evidence‑based practice, or research at the unit level. Comply with regulatory standards and unit‑level activities. Unit Operations Support charge nurse decisions and serve in charge role as needed. Adhere to hospital policies that ensure patient security and safety. Follow AACN Healthy Work Environment guidelines and collaborate on team communication, decision making, and leadership. Professional Development Serve as preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students; contribute to personnel skill development. Attend educational offerings and in‑services independently. Complete annual educational requirements and maintain patient‑care competencies. Patient Safety Take action to correct observed safety risks. Report adverse events and near misses to appropriate authorities. Identify and communicate potential risks in processes, procedures, and devices. Qualifications Education & Experience Unencumbered RN license in Maryland or a Nurse Compact License (NSL). BSN preferred. At least two years of recent (within the past 12 months) clinical hospital nursing experience in a comparable setting. Maintain 10 contact hours of education every two years. License and Certification Med‑Surg/Telemetry Basic Life Support (BLS) National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Labor & Delivery (L&D) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Mother/Baby Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Pediatrics Operating Room (OR) Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Behavioral Health Cognitive Behavior Interventions (CBI) Training Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication. Maintain patient and family privacy and confidentiality. Evaluate and report patient response to achieve outcomes and facilitate timely discharge. Use computer systems to manage patient information. Participate in team‑building and support teamwork. Provide care appropriate to the patient population, applying knowledge of growth and development over the lifespan and assessing data reflective of population‑specific needs.
