Network Engineer (802988)

Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer III to support the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Office of Traffic Operations in upgrading and replacing network equipment for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) infrastructure across the state. This role involves hands‑on network installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities within highway field cabinets and enterprise network environments. The ideal candidate will have strong networking expertise, experience with fiber optic cabling, and the ability to work independently in field conditions. Key Responsibilities Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, and administer network hardware and software environments Support workstation, server, telecommunications, network connectivity, and enterprise infrastructure operations Design, install, monitor, and troubleshoot network devices including routers, switches, wireless bridges, access points, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and related infrastructure Install and maintain complex computer networks and associated computing environments Perform hardware and software testing prior to installations and upgrades Execute network and system configuration changes to improve performance, reliability, and operational efficiency Serve as a technical expert supporting large‑scale enterprise infrastructure and network environments Collaborate with Network Architects and systems management teams to ensure compliance with enterprise standards Create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and implementation guides Support ITS network equipment installations and maintenance activities within roadside field cabinets throughout Ohio Troubleshoot network connectivity, cabling, and fiber optic communication issues Act as an escalation point for high‑priority network support incidents Work effectively in outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions near vehicular traffic Core Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of network applications, switches, servers, and enterprise networking concepts Experience with network cabling systems and fiber optic cabling infrastructure Expertise in routing, switching, and network troubleshooting Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities Excellent communication, leadership, collaboration, and facilitation skills Ability to work independently and within cross‑functional teams Strong documentation and technical writing capabilities Experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure environments Required Experience 5+ years of experience with network cabling systems and fiber optic cabling Working knowledge of network applications, switches, servers, routers, and related infrastructure Experience installing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting enterprise network equipment Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and near vehicular traffic Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or equivalent technical study OR equivalent professional experience Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification preferred Desired Skills Cisco Routing & Switching experience Ubiquity Wireless experience Sierra Wireless experience FortiSIEM experience Routing & Switching Certification highly desired Additional Notes Position is fully onsite with no remote option available Candidate must be available for in‑person interview in Columbus, Ohio Role requires field work along state highways and ITS infrastructure locations Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills are essential for success in this role #J-18808-Ljbffr Smartcloudsolution
