Pay Range: $17.24hr - $24.00hr

Job Overview:

The main function of the phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This is a float position where the candidate will travel to correctional locations in Orient, OH and London, OH.

Responsibilities:

Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance and decontamination data.
Update patient information accurately within the system.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures, such as urine or fecal collection, to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
Demonstrate proficiency in techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Fully understand and interpret all physician orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes correctly.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens securely for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and place samples in appropriate collection containers.
Follow specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimens.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department training sessions.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.
Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
