Values Innovation Integrity Patient Experience Teamwork Job Summary The SAU/PACU Registered Nurse provides clinical nursing in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and plays a primary role in the efficient functioning of the ASC. Duties of this role include, but are not limited to: Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with patients and other users of the ASC. Oversees the clinical practice of nursing in the ASC including assessing patient care needs and planning the delivery of care utilizing the nursing process in a variety of settings. Directs other caregivers in providing patient care. Reports variances from standard practice to the Nurse Manager. Provides pre-operative teaching as needed, such as explanation of surgical routine and environment. Processes patients through the ASC. Administers prescribed medications, applies dressings, and monitors vital signs. Assesses the level of personnel skills and the availability of resources to meet established patient outcomes. Actively participates in attaining ASC goals and mission. Responsible for personal and staff development by maintaining nursing competencies. Completes all mandatory nursing competencies and educational requirements within a defined time frame. Participates in the preparation of staff development programs. Identifies self-learning needs, establishes personal and professional goals to meet those needs and evaluates attainment of set goals. Demonstrates a positive, concerned, and sensitive response in the workplace. Contributes to the positive atmosphere of the workplace. Interacts with patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous, helpful manner. Maintains confidentiality of information regarding patient, families, and staff members. Resolves conflict in a positive manner. The position requires cross training to pre-procedure, intra-procedure, recovery, and pre-procedural phone calls. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications Associate’s degree in Nursing required. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. Current Minnesota license as a Registered Nurse (RN) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required. Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required. One year of clinical experience as an RN in an ambulatory surgical center environment required. Skills & Abilities Detailed oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a highly active environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated leadership ability. Ability to problem solve. Computer and business skills. Self-directed, reliable, consistent. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a medical surgery center setting located in Burnsville. Must be willing and able to float to Maplewood and Edina locations on occasion. Compensation & Work Schedule Full-Time: 1.0 FTE Non-Exempt. Weekday day shift; start times vary from 5:45-8:00AM. No evenings or weekends.
