ICU RN Unit Overview

Patient Population / Common Diagnoses:
The ICU manages a high-acuity patient population including respiratory failure, sepsis, STEMI, post-tPA stroke, drug overdose, suicide attempts, various shock states, heart blocks, and COVID-19 cases.

Staffing & Ratios:

• ICU: 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Step-down: 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Unit size: 14 ICU beds

Floating Expectations:
ICU RNs may be required to float to Telemetry and potentially to Medical-Surgical units. Candidates must confirm comfort with floating to these areas as needed.

Support Resources:
An intensivist is available for consultation and may be on-site when in the hospital. Each ICU room is equipped with a critical care telemedicine camera system and emergency alert button. An ED physician and hospitalist are in-house 24/7.
