Job Title: Quality Inspector Job Description

The Quality Inspector is an experienced and versatile quality assurance professional responsible for performing detailed dimensional and visual inspections of critical parts and assemblies throughout the production cycle, including First Article, in-process, incoming raw materials, and final inspections. This role ensures that products meet all engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards, and involves documenting inspection findings and preparing comprehensive reports to support product acceptance or rejection.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed dimensional and visual inspections of critical parts and assemblies at various stages of production, including First Article, in-process, incoming raw materials, and final inspection.

• Read, interpret, and apply complex engineering drawings and specifications, including model-based definition (MBD), parts lists, title blocks, tolerances, sheets, zones, water lines, butt lines, station lines, dimensions, general notes, and flag notes.

• Perform inspections across multiple areas and processes and support varying shift assignments as required by production needs.

• Independently select and use appropriate measuring devices and inspection tools for each inspection application to ensure accurate and reliable results.

• Complete First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) in accordance with AS9102 requirements, ensuring all data is accurate, complete, and traceable.

• Problem-solve and research inspection requirements by navigating planning or work order documentation, FAIRs, purchase orders, engineering documents, specifications, and other inspection-related documentation.

• Document inspection results clearly and accurately, producing necessary inspection reports and records to support product acceptance or rejection decisions.

• Apply basic knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management system guidelines, supporting their understanding, implementation, and maintenance within inspection activities.

• Obtain and maintain various customer and internal certifications required for inspection tasks and quality assurance activities.

• Respond to inspection requests and quality issues with a strong sense of urgency while maintaining a customer service-oriented approach to internal and external stakeholders.

• Use basic computer skills and Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Forms to record data, prepare reports, and communicate inspection findings.

• Communicate inspection issues, nonconformances, and observations clearly with team members and other departments to support effective resolution and continuous improvement.

• Follow work instructions, procedures, contracts, drawings, and specifications accurately while maintaining high attention to detail and compliance with quality standards.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.

• At least two years of quality assurance or inspection experience, preferably within the aerospace or aviation industry.

• Hands-on experience performing detailed dimensional and visual inspections of parts and assemblies.

• Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings and specifications, including MBD, parts lists, title blocks, tolerances, sheets, zones, water lines, butt lines, station lines, dimensions, general notes, and flag notes.

• Experience completing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) in accordance with AS9102.

• Basic knowledge and practical application of ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management system guidelines.

• Ability to independently select and use appropriate measuring devices and inspection tools for various inspection applications.

• Basic computer proficiency, including the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Forms.

• Strong reading and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and follow work instructions, procedures, contracts, drawings, and specifications.

• Effective communication skills to clearly convey inspection issues and findings to team members and other departments.

• Ability to move freely around the facility and workstation, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, up to and over 8 hours a day.

• Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds as part of routine inspection and handling activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in the aerospace or aviation industry is preferred.

• Familiarity with source inspection activities is a plus.

• Ability to work across multiple areas and processes and adapt to varying shift assignments.

• Customer and internal inspection certifications, or the ability to obtain and maintain such certifications.

• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to research and navigate planning documents, work orders, purchase orders, engineering documents, specifications, and inspection documentation.

• Customer service-oriented mindset, with the ability to respond to requests and quality issues with urgency and professionalism.

• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high quality standards and continuous improvement.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility focused on advanced composite materials. You will work on the production floor and in inspection areas, moving freely around the facility and workstation to perform inspections. The environment requires extended periods of standing and walking, as well as stooping, bending, reaching, and kneeling for up to and over 8 hours a day. You will handle parts and equipment, including lifting and moving items up to 35 pounds. The work setting is hands-on, fast-paced, and quality-driven, with regular use of measuring devices, inspection tools, and computer systems to document and report inspection results.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Kent, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $68078.40/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
