Speech and Language Pathologist
At the Innovative Academies of Dayton Public Schools, Speech and Language Pathologists (SLP) assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, communication and other related disorders in children. The SLP develops goals and provides contributions to curriculum to improve the language and literacy skills of identified students and those deemed as at-risk students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluates, re-evaluates, and identifies students with speech and language impairments
- Identifies at risk students
- Provides educational supports and services to improve identified areas of concern
- Educates staff relative to bilingualism and dialectal differences between students
- Analyzes environments and demands of curriculum as related to comprehension of oral and written expression as critical elements of language
- Implements and provides therapeutic intervention to students using a variety of service delivery options and researched based interventions
- Develops and implements Individual Education Programs
- Attends staff and faculty meetings
- Attends and leads ETR and IEP meetings
- Completes compliance paperwork for agencies, District, and State
- Completes Medicaid billing requirements and daily logs
- Counsels and advocates for students with disabilities
- Communicates and coordinates with outside agencies and other related service staff
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Hold a valid Speech-Language Pathology license with the Ohio Department of Education
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Master's degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology
- Hold a valid Ohio Board License for Speech-Language Pathology
- Must be sensitive to cultural and linguistic differences
- Must have knowledge of standardized norm-referenced tests and criterion-referenced tests
- Ability to identify, assess, and treat individuals at risk for articulation and/or phonological disorders
- Ability to identify, assess, and manage individuals at risk for resonance, voice, and/or fluency disorders
- Ability to recognize and differentiate between social language disorders and common variations
Physical Attributes/Demands:
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs
- Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a general school setting
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Work may be subject to frequent interruptions
- Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines
- Frequent travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
