Executive Director, PDMB Outsourcing

Merck seeks an Executive Director to lead the Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics, Metabolism and Bioanalytics (PDMB) Outsourcing team within Translational Sciences and Outsourcing. This leader will oversee approximately 35 scientists and operational staff, manage relationships with 50+ external vendors globally, and drive digital transformation and innovation in outsourcing operations to support drug discovery and development.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage team of approximately 35 scientists and operational staff across PDMB functions
• Oversee external research relationships with 50+ vendors globally to ensure quality, compliance, and timely delivery
• Develop vendor strategy and manage external capability development, assay placement, and issue resolution
• Drive innovation in outsourcing capabilities and internal sourcing processes through cross-functional collaboration
• Contribute to departmental and portfolio strategy within TSO leadership framework

Requirements

• BS/MS/PharmD with 13+ years experience OR PhD with 10+ years drug discovery/development experience
• Broad bioanalytical development, validation, and quality control expertise in regulated GLP and clinical environments
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for small molecules and biologics testing
• Business and financial acumen with direct vendor management and forecasting experience
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performance teams with focus on inclusion and collaboration
• Strong technical, written, and oral communication skills
• Preferred: Track record in bioanalytical science field with publications or professional involvement
