Civil Engineer Technician – Benton County Public Works The County seeks qualified candidates for a full‑time Civil Engineer Technician position. Monitor email for updates. Work Location Benton County, City of Foley, Minnesota. Requires field and office work. Hours of Work Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (schedule may vary). Duties and Responsibilities Assist in planning, development, and implementation of highway design and construction projects. Perform staking, surveying, drafting, design work and inspection of construction projects. Use computer-aided design and prepare specifications and estimates. Coordinate with federal, state, and local entities. Perform compliance tests for soils, aggregates, bituminous, concrete, etc. Monitor project progress and ensure specifications and regulations are met. Prepare final records and close out contracts. Assist with MPCA MS4 annual inspections and permit requirements. Operate GPS and survey systems, create construction plans. Support training and mentoring of other staff. Perform utility locates, hydraulic surveys, and roadway markings. Attend training, prepare reports and other documents as needed. Minimum Qualifications Completion of an approved two‑year highway/civil engineering technology, drafting, or land surveying program. Four years of relevant work experience, or six years, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid driver’s license and ability to drive in Minnesota. Successful background check. Ability to obtain and maintain upon hire MnDOT technical certifications (e.g., Aggregate Production Tester, Bituminous Plant Tester, Concrete Field Tester, etc.) and Erosion and Stormwater Management Certification. Skills and Abilities Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to highway construction. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and within a team. Ability to perform tasks requiring moderate analytical ability and problem solving. Travel within city and statewide as required; works extended hours as needed. Compliance with all safety, health, and privacy policies. Physical Demands Work both in office and field. May involve bending, climbing, walking uneven terrain, lifting up to 50 lb. Exposure to hazardous materials, noise, weather conditions, and occasional high mental effort. Equipment Utilized Office equipment, computers, pickup truck, engineering equipment, telephones. Compensation Each grade level has 11 wage steps.
