What will you do as a Pharmacist
Provides professional pharmacy services in a hospital clinic correctional facility or other health care setting and provides technical supervision to support personnel performing pharmacy duties.

Essential Job Functions

Provides expert information to healthcare staff patients and others about drugs and other pharmaceuticals with respect to such factors as the appropriateness of drugs in relation to the patients condition and drug history; the choice of drugs including dosage form quantity methods of administration and alternative therapy for drugs having undesirable side effects; the pharmacological characteristics of drugs including their effects on the human system the condition being treated and their chemical interaction with other substances in the patients system; and their physical characteristics such as compatibility with other drugs forms in which they are or can be manufactured and expected shelf life.

Screens prescriptions and medication orders for completeness accurate authorization dosage and quantity therapeutic compatibility drug interactions and allergies; and clarifies possible problems with appropriate medical staff.

Monitors the condition of patients through observation of physical or laboratory reactions to drug therapy and reports findings to attending physician suggesting changes in drug therapy as indicated; may be assigned to the ongoingmanagement of chronic disease patients subject to periodic review of medical staff.

Supervises or performs the preparation of drug labels and the affixing of labels to the accurate containers; ensures the inclusion of appropriate directions for the timing methods and precautions to be observed in taking the medication; personally instructs patients in the use of medications when indicated.
Takes drug histories and acts as a drug consultant with medical staff and patients. They assist in selecting drug therapy for each patient. This includes choosing medications dosage strength frequency and method of administration.

Provides technical supervision to Pharmacy Technicians and Intern Pharmacists in the prepacking of pharmaceuticals.

Develops maintains and supervises the operation of drug distribution systems including the maintenance of appropriate controls; notes and reports quality deficiencies of drug products; and ensures that pharmaceuticals are accurately ordered stored kept up-to-date and protected from deterioration.

Selects compounds and dispenses drugs and other pharmaceutical products ordered by physicians dentists and other licensed medical practitioners including the calculation and preparation of solutions for oral external intramuscular and intravenous administration.

Uses pharmacy and other medication-related computerized information systems.

Provides replenishment of drugs along with support and maintenance of pharmacy automation to ensure accurate functioning and operation.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

LICENSE:

A current license to practice as a Registered Pharmacist* issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION

*All required licenses must be active and unrestricted or your application will not be accepted.

Provide the type(s) license number(s) and names(s) of the issuing agency for the required license(s) or attach a legible photocopy of their license to practice as a Registered Pharmacist issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy to the application at the time of filing or email to exam analyst at within 7 calendar days from filing online . Original license MUST be presented during the selection process and prior to appointment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

One year of work experience as a Registered Pharmacist.

Successful completion of a residency program in pharmacy. Applicants MUST attach a clear copy of their certificate. It must verify that a one-year pharmacy residency program has been completed successfully. This should be included with their application when filing or within 7 calendar days after filing online.

OUR ASSESSMENT PROCESS :
This is a non-competitive examination. This examination is intended to merely qualify applicants. Applicants will be placed on an eligible register without indication of relative standing in the examination.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
Applications will be processed as they are received and only those who qualify will be placed on the list for 12 months.
The appointing power may appoint any one of the names on the appropriate register except that a person without veterans credit may not be appointed if there are three more names on the register of persons entitled to veterans credit.

SPECIAL INFORMATION:
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings nights weekends and holidays.

VACANCY INFORMATION:
The eligible register resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur.

Veterans Credit:
