Our client is seeking a DevOps Engineer – Data Platforms to join their engineering team in a highly visible, hands-on role focused on building and supporting scalable, automated cloud-based data platforms.

This role sits at the intersection of DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and application engineering, with deep ownership of PostgreSQL and AWS Aurora environments. The ideal candidate will bring a strong platform engineering mindset focused on automation, scalability, reliability, and enabling engineering teams to move quickly without compromising performance or data integrity.

This is not a traditional DBA role. The team is looking for an engineer who views data infrastructure as a scalable platform engineered for change rather than a manually managed environment.

Summary:

The ideal candidate will have experience building and operating high-availability production data platforms within modern DevOps and platform engineering environments.

Successful candidates will possess:

• Strong hands-on PostgreSQL and AWS Aurora experience
• Experience implementing CI/CD-driven database changes and schema migrations
• A strong automation and platform engineering mindset
• Deep experience with database performance tuning and observability
• The ability to troubleshoot complex production issues under pressure
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with engineering teams
• Experience supporting high-growth, high-traffic environments preferred

Required Experience:

• 5+ years of experience supporting production systems within DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering environments
• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL in production environments (Aurora preferred)
• Experience with AWS, including Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS, IAM, monitoring, backups, and replication
• Experience implementing CI/CD-driven database deployments and schema changes
• Strong understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code principles and automation practices
• Deep expertise in performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization
• Experience executing live schema changes with minimal or zero downtime
• Strong troubleshooting skills in production environments
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or Prometheus
• Working knowledge of SQL and familiarity with application languages such as C# or JavaScript

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with Flyway, Liquibase, or similar migration tooling
• Experience with GitHub Actions, Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar DevOps tooling
• Exposure to security, auditing, and compliance best practices
• Experience mentoring engineering teams on database performance and scalability best practices

Responsibilities:

• Own and support PostgreSQL and AWS Aurora environments across development, staging, and production
• Design and implement automated CI/CD workflows for database deployments and schema changes
• Lead zero/low-downtime schema evolution and production database changes
• Partner with engineering teams on data modeling, indexing strategies, and application performance optimization
• Monitor and optimize database performance, scalability, and reliability
• Build and maintain observability, monitoring, alerting, backup, and disaster recovery solutions
• Participate in incident response and long-term platform resilience initiatives
• Support security, compliance, and operational best practices across cloud-based data platforms
