Position Summary:

Provide first-aid and emergency response for all Grand Canyon West facilities.  Assess injuries, administer emergency medical care and transport injured or sick persons to proper facilities. Control and extinguish fires or respond to emergency situations where life, property or environment is at risk.  Duties may include fire prevention, hazardous material response, search and rescue and disaster assistance. Operate all emergency response vehicles and monitor vehicle fluid levels.  Keep vehicles clean and sanitized after use.  Maintain appropriate records and reports. Perform many difficult tasks in hazardous conditions. 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Ability to give clear, concise directions or information, be easily understood and record and generate reports accurately.
  2. Ability to function calmly and stay focused in crisis or emergency situations.
  3. Ability to perform tasks in difficult and hazardous situations.  Ability to lift heavy loads, pull hose, climb ladders, work at heights and in confined spaces.
  4. Ability to maintain and drive emergency vehicles and operate equipment, such as defibrillators used in execution of duties.
  5. Proficient in firefighting skills and EMT skills relevant to National and Arizona State certification levels.  Must maintain an EMT-B certification which is Nationally recognized and State of Arizona. Must maintain a valid AZ Health Division EMT certification. Knowledge of aircraft emergency response.
  6. Ability to administer first aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured persons in a non-hospital setting.  
  7. Ability to provide outstanding customer and personal services while comforting and reassuring patients.
  8. Ability to work in a team environment, multi-task efficiently and maintain positive working relationships.  Work in close quarters during 56 hour shifts.
  9. Knowledge of Grand Canyon West locations and operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Respond to all emergency and non-emergency situations.  Assess nature and extent of illness or injuries, administer emergency medical care and transport injured or sick persons, if required. 
  2. Clean and maintain station, apparatus and vehicles.  Ensure emergency vehicles are fueled and that the proper tools, supplies and medical equipment are on board at all times. Identify needed repairs or existing safety hazards.   
  3. Complete and maintain proper records and reports for response situations as well as equipment and vehicles used. 
  4. Understand the Incident Command System (ICS) and the fire scene accountability system Standard Operating Guideline as adopted at Grand Canyon West.  Responsible for knowing the layout, physical conditions, locations and target hazards of Grand Canyon West.
  5. Determine best method for attack, control and extinguishing of fires. Use appropriate fire suppression techniques and equipment.
  6. Attend training classes and maintain proficiency to keep current certification licensure and keep abreast of new developments in the field.
  7. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

  9. Required Qualifications:
  1. Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT)
  2. State Certified EMT-B.
  3. High School Diploma or GED.
  4. Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  5. Clean criminal background with no felony convictions.
  6. Good oral and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Firefighter I & II.
  2. Experience as an EMT or Paramedic & Firefighter.
  3. ARFF Certification.
  4. FEMA NIMS ICS Certifications.
  5. Willingness to participate in additional cross-training either on own time or training provided by company (EMT, Rope Rescue, etc.).
  6. Preference given to Hualapai Tribal members.
Working Conditions:

Physically demanding environment requiring a level of good health and physical fitness.  Must be able to lift weight exceeding 50 lbs.  May be required to perform duties in extremely hazardous conditions. Must be able to work varying schedules, weekends and holidays.  Willingness to work in remote location.
