Alamosa County Sheriff Department, Court Security Deputy Reports to: Lieutenant FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary: Non-Post: $42,910.00 – Post Certified: $51,503.00 Job Summary: Provides security at the Alamosa County Justice Center. Work schedule is usually 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Essential Job Functions: Observes all persons entering the courtroom, their movements, and activities; limits access to the bench and other restricted areas. Monitors entry magnetometer. Searches the interior of the courtroom, judicial chambers, jury room, restrooms and other restricted areas each morning prior to the arrival of any other court participants. May conduct similar searches following recesses to assure the rooms are clear of weapons, explosives, or contraband. Assists all court personnel with security issues as needed. Provides direction and general information to persons entering the building. Assists generally in court regarding signing of orders and other documents. Manages jury needs, including monitoring, directing and controlling juror activities during verdict deliberation, to ensure compliance with orders, rules and regulations. Prevents criminal defendants in custody from having physical contact with family, friends, or spectators to prevent the passing of weapons or contraband. Maintains confidentiality. Enforces laws and ordinances and investigates violations. Follows department policies and procedures, studying applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances. Maintains a working knowledge of arrestee rights. Familiar with preventive, protective and defensive tactics. Mediates disputes and responds to notices of disturbance. Uses computer skills for record keeping as required. Arrives on time and is prepared to work. Performs other duties as assigned. Works schedule to meet all obligations of the position. Required Qualifications Knowledge Knowledge of court systems and procedure. Knowledge of policies and procedures of law enforcement. Skills Learn and operate software specific to program. Computer/word processing skills, including MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Analytical and problem‑solving skills. Decision making in a stressful environment. Maintain composure during stressful times. Abilities Efficiently communicate in English, both written and verbal. Initiate and accomplish assigned tasks. Work alone and unsupervised. Address complaints and resolve problems. Work with all court personnel. Work independently or in a team. Communicate verbally and in writing in English. Meet the physical requirements listed below. Education and Experience Post Certified preferred, but not required. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred, but not required. At least two (2) years of experience in law enforcement. High school diploma or GED. Colorado driver’s license required. Physical Requirements, Work Conditions and Environment Must possess the physical ability to run for long periods, contain and apprehend a suspect once captured, and operate a variety of equipment including communication devices, firearms, stun devices, camera equipment, handcuffs and leg irons, tactical gear, bullet‑proof vest, PR24 baton or ASP, restraint equipment, fire control equipment, and O.C. spray. Must be able to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment at an efficient speed. The position requires repetitive use of hands, reaching, standing, sitting for long periods, talk and hearing. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50–100 pounds. Driver requirement: ability to drive for extended periods.
