The Kingston K-14 School District is seeking an outstanding individual to fill a Special Education teaching position for the 2026-2027 school year. The district offers competitive pay and benefits. We honor all years of experience from other districts on our salary schedule. There are opportunities to earn additional salary (coaching, after-school tutoring, and an after-school program). We have an on-site daycare for children ages 1 and up. $3,000 High Needs Classroom Stipend in addition to base salary. Reports to: Building Principal and Special Education Director Position Description: The Primary/Elementary Special Education High Needs Classroom Teacher will provide specialized instruction and behavioral support to students requiring intensive academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions. A majority of students assigned to this classroom will remain within the classroom setting for most or all of the school day due to their individualized needs. The position requires working with students who may demonstrate behavioral and social-emotional outbursts, requiring consistent implementation of de-escalation strategies, structured routines, and positive behavior supports. The successful candidate will collaborate with administrators, special education staff, related service providers, and families to support student success. The Self-Contained Elementary Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction and behavior support to students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting. The teacher designs and implements instruction aligned to students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) while fostering academic growth, independence, and social-emotional development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The teacher will:
- Provide direct instruction to elementary students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations.
- Adapt and modify curriculum to meet diverse learning, behavioral, communication, and functional needs.
- Teach academic content aligned to state standards as well as functional academics and daily living/life skills as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Establish and consistently implement positive behavior supports and individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
- Encourage students to develop appropriate social skills, independence, and self-regulation strategies.
- Assess student progress regularly using formal and informal measures and provide required documentation and progress reports.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with legal and district requirements.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and administration to support student success.
- Supervise and direct paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, academic performance, and behavioral development.
- Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and other required conferences.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and serve on committees as required.
- Assist in selecting instructional materials, adaptive equipment, and classroom resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Special Education Director.
- Hold appropriate certification
- Demonstrate knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education compliance requirements.
- Have experience working with elementary students with academic, developmental, and behavioral needs.
- Have experience implementing behavior intervention plans and positive behavior supports.
- Possess knowledge of life skills instruction and functional curriculum.
- Demonstrate strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- Exhibit patience, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a strong commitment to student growth and inclusion.
