About the Role

Picture yourself stepping onto the yard at the start of your shift, scanning the lineup of finished goods, and deciding the fastest, safest way to clear the lines so assembly can keep humming. You climb into the MI Jack or diesel forklift, set the plan, and move—staging units with precision, coordinating with the traffic team, and keeping the flow to domestic, export, and LTL carriers seamless. Throughout the night, you mentor junior mechanics, capture process knowledge as you go, and keep the yard orderly so every move is safe, efficient, and customer-focused.

• Clear production lines with the MI Jack or diesel forklift, aligning to assembly and shipping priorities.
• Operate all major and minor material handling equipment with uncompromising safety, productivity, and quality.
• Stage, block, brace, and tie down product per truck loading requirements and regulations; respect load limits and permit restrictions.
• Own yard organization—spacing, staging, and neatness to protect product and people.
• Execute SOPs for shipping finished goods; maintain accurate, legible paperwork and digital records.
• Respond to internal customers with urgency; take direction from the traffic team to ensure shipping accuracy and satisfaction.
• Lead the team when needed; interpret departmental metrics and train junior mechanics by documenting and sharing best practices.
• Champion 5S, continuous improvement, and sustainability—support root cause analysis, reduce waste, and seek innovative ways to improve processes.
• Adjust shift times as needed; work safely in adverse weather (heat, cold, rain, snow).
• Perform other duties supporting plant objectives and cross-functional teamwork.

• 2+ years of hands-on experience with material handling equipment; ability to obtain MI Jack and forklift certifications.
• Proven capability to lead small groups and influence peers.
• Knowledge of shipping modalities (domestic, export, LTL) and truck loading rules.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints.
• Solid math (fractions, conversions) and skill with measuring tools (tape measure, micrometer, protractor).
• Strong written and verbal communication—clear memos/emails and accurate technical dialogue.
• Commitment to safety; awareness of machine hazards and safety-sensitive areas.
• High product knowledge across BAC models and parts.
• MS Excel competency for updating data and generating metrics in pre-formatted sheets.
• Flexibility to rotate across department workstations and support cross-functional teams.

This role reports to the Planning and Logistics Manager, Shipping Shift Leader, or another assigned supervisor. You’ll provide hands-on leadership, mentor junior mechanics, and may contribute expertise to regional project teams as a subject matter expert.

Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time. Additional physical activities include walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed, as well as hand-eye coordination to perform changes. Typical working hours will be 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM, however, working hours can include any of three shifts and employee must be flexible. The team is generally scheduled for forty hours a week, and some weekend overtime is to be expected.
