Connect Serenity Counseling Services, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our innovative and compassionate team. In this full-time role, you will engage primarily in virtual counseling sessions from the comfort of your home, while also participating in community outreach and educational initiatives. Your expertise will directly contribute to improving mental health outcomes for black birthing families in our community.

Work Environment

This position is remote, allowing for flexibility while maintaining a full schedule of client sessions. The work environment is supportive, emphasizing collaboration among a multidisciplinary team, including prenatal care providers, doulas, and lactation consultants. You will work closely with other mental health specialists in a blend of virtual consultations and community-focused initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage actively in community outreach activities to promote holistic wellness, including organizing and facilitating workshops and seminars that aim to empower birthing individuals and families.
• Participate in ongoing clinical consultations and interdisciplinary co-learning spaces to enhance skills and deliver high-quality care.
• Maintain and complete all required clinical documentation with a focus on accuracy and compliance with regulations.
• Deliver comprehensive behavioral health services, including mental health assessments, individual counseling, and case management tailored to the needs of black birthing families.
• Collaborate closely with prenatal care team members, including medical providers and community birth workers, to ensure integrated care that addresses both the physical and emotional needs of clients.
• Co-facilitate childbirth education and postpartum peer support groups alongside licensed birth workers, contributing your mental health expertise to enhance educational offerings.
• Stay updated on best practices and evidence-based methodologies in mental health treatment to continually refine and enhance service delivery.

Patient Population / Client Focus

This role primarily focuses on supporting black birthing families, addressing their unique challenges and experiences through culturally competent care. You will be instrumental in fostering a supportive environment that acknowledges and respects the cultural identities of clients, helping them navigate the complexities of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum phases.

Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Behavioral Sciences or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
• Current licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) is mandatory.
• Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, capable of forming professional relationships with a diverse array of clients and interdisciplinary staff.
• An ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team framework, demonstrating initiative and asking for support when needed.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with diverse populations, particularly families experiencing the perinatal period, is highly valued.
• Familiarity with community resources in Bakersfield, California, that support maternal and mental health.
• Prior engagement in community outreach or educational programs within the field of mental health is an asset.
