Supervisory Park Ranger

Summary This position is located in Everglades National Park, in the Resource Education & Interpretation Division. It is a regional leadership role as Chief of Interpretation and Education for Everglades and Dry Tortugas National Parks. Major Duties The incumbent is responsible for supervising, planning, coordinating, and managing all aspects of the organization’s program, policies, and activities directed at both internal and external audiences. Key responsibilities include overseeing interpretation, education, partnerships, community engagement programs, park‑wide volunteer programs, and associated functions, operations, and facilities. The role serves as an expert in programs conducted by park concessionaires, partners, and neighboring communities, and acts as a core member of the Park Leadership Team managing two parks covering over 1.5 million acres of land and water. Education and Experience No substitution of education for experience is permitted. Qualified applicants must meet the mandatory Mandatory Mandatory qualifications specified by the Office of Personnel Management, including all selective placement factors and a rating of at least "well qualified" on all competencies. Applicants must also be physically qualified with reasonable accommodation as required to perform the duties. Applicants who are current or former federal employees applying under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well‑qualified and submit all required documentation in accordance with 5 CFR 330.605(2) and 5 CFR 330.704, including proof of federal employment status and performance rating. Requirements U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Male applicants must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements. Eligible to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. Valid U.S. driver’s license and a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record; must supply certified driving records from all states. Uniform required; uniform allowance provided. Ability to wear park uniform standards. May be required to work occasional weekends, holidays, and travel overnight up to two nights per month. Must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes and may be required to complete travel and purchase authority training. Required to complete a new entrant Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) within 30 days of appointment. Must meet time‑in‑grade requirements for former federal staff and for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act if applicable. Physical Demands The role is generally sedentary with periods of walking, standing, bending, climbing, or driving. The incumbent may be required to lead presentations or guided programs in hot, humid outdoor environments and is subjected to moderate risks during travel on small aircraft, watercraft, or off‑road vehicles, as well as exposure to hostile wildlife, poisonous plants, and venomous animals in South Florida.
