Instructor in EMS/Paramedic/Clinical Coordinator
Full-time faculty positions at Clovis Community College are not remote positions and require a physical presence on campus to fulfill teaching duties, conduct office hours, and fulfill other college-related responsibilities. The instructor in EMS/Paramedic/Clinical Coordinator is a member of a faculty team, providing instruction leading to an EMS/Paramedic certificate and an Associate Degree. Is responsible for developing and maintaining the students' clinical education with clinical site personnel and various clinical sites. Provide theory instruction as well as supervision of clinical experiences of students. Strong commitment to quality teaching, student success, and academic excellence is required. Duties are performed in the context of a comprehensive community college; understanding of the community college mission and philosophy will be critical to success.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Instructor in EMS/Paramedic Program will have tasks including, but not limited to, the correlation of didactic and clinical instruction, supervision and evaluation of EMS/Paramedic students as well as student guidance, student recruitment, program development and public awareness.
- This instructor may also serve as the clinical coordinator, providing coordination and curricular experiences for students in varied healthcare settings.
- May include day, evening, online, and hybrid courses.
- Teaching assignment may include courses provided for high school students under the provisions of the dual credit policy of the state of New Mexico.
- The instructor may teach additional courses, including courses for area high school students as part of the contract or on an overload basis, by agreement with the Program Director, Executive Director of Health Sciences and Applied Technologies and Dean of Instruction
- Consult with students during office hours and participate in orientation, registration, committees, councils, in-service, student advisement, and professional development activities.
- In collaboration with other members of the division, determine course content and curricula.
- Fulfill all functions of a faculty member, including those related to teaching, faculty service, assessment of student academic achievement, and professional development.
- Participate in college-wide studies and projects, providing information as requested.
- Demonstrate or actively work to attain proficiency with such technologies as may be useful in instruction, including personal computers, presentation software, computer-generated tutorials, and learning management systems.
- The Instructor in EMS/Paramedic Program will have tasks including, but not limited to, the correlation of didactic and clinical instruction, supervision and evaluation of EMS/Paramedic students as well as student guidance, student recruitment, program development and public awareness.
- This instructor serves as clinical coordinator for the program, maintaining a liaison with clinical site personnel by visiting sites on a regular basis, as well as maintaining existing clinical contracts and pursuing new clinical sites for EMS programs.
- Participate in vocational recruitment activities on behalf of the College.
- Deliver well-prepared, organized, and clear lectures and activities tailored for both in-person and online formats, aiming to facilitate student mastery of the course learning outcomes.
- Develop and submit course syllabi for all assigned courses, ensuring inclusion of all required components and tailored to the instructional modality utilized (online or face-to-face).
- Collaborate with department members, Program Director and Division Chair to develop and revise curriculum, select textbooks and equipment, create instructional materials, and ensure cohesive and uniform student assessment practices.
- Establish and maintain an effective learning environment across assigned courses, adapting to diverse modalities including face-to-face, hybrid, asynchronous and synchronous online, as well as dual credit and Early College High School instruction contexts.
- Utilizing course assessment practices, assess and communicate student proficiency in achieving course learning outcomes. Document findings in formal assessment reports as directed by the Assessment Council and the Executive Vice President.
- Utilize technology, including but not limited to LMS, Starfish, MS Office, EMS testing and planning/scheduling software for students to sign up for the internship and the Internet, for classroom, studio, and laboratory instruction and provide students with timely and accurate information and feedback regarding their academic progress, using assessments such as quizzes, tests, homework, and projects.
- Throughout each contracted academic semester, maintain a daily on-campus presence from Monday to Thursday and ensure a minimum of 5 in-person office hours per week to assist students with questions, tutoring, and instructional clarification. Schedule office hours based on student requirements rather than faculty convenience.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all college policies and procedures.
- Perform all faculty responsibilities, encompassing teaching, faculty service, participation in in-services, evaluating student academic achievement, participating in professional development activities, and contributing to orientations, committees, councils, and other assigned duties.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills, and pushing and pulling of up to 20 lbs.
Schedule Details:
Must be available to work 40 hours per week. Based on course schedule, lab requirements and clinical coordination, the normal schedule does not fall into the standard Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm schedule. Evenings and weekends hours are expected and required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidates are expected to be hold a current Paramedic Certification as issued by the state of New Mexico EMS Bureau and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
- Must hold a current BLS, ACLS, & PALS provider card.
- Must hold a current Instructor Certification issued by the one of the current New Mexico institutions or the ability to obtain within one year.
- Minimum (3) years working at the Paramedic Level and at least one year teaching experience in a Health/Medical related field, either as a part time instructor or as a clinical preceptor.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to travel to clinical and off-site locations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum (3) years Clinical education/instructional experience
- Minimum (5) years' work experience at the Paramedic Level
- Holds a current Instructor Certification to be eligible to teach within New Mexico.
